GGG has had a good run. He blasted through lots of contenders. Unfortunately, he didn't get the big fights that I'm sure he wanted. He did beat Canelo the first time around and the second fight was close. Still, he just doesn't have the names on his roster. I don't know if it's his fault or the powers that be. Just not enough quality opponents. However, we have to say, he's not done yet. Now Rolls gets him nowhere, but if he could add some names, he'd be closer. Still, though, it's doubtful. This sport is making it easier and easier for the best to not face each other. There will be plenty of GGG's as time goes on. I do think he could have been great had things gone a bit differently for him.
Is Gennady Golovkin an all time great?

His resume is sparse, but the footage is mint. The dude belongs to a historically deep division. Arguably the most talent-laden. So yes, he's an ATG. But maybe not a top 50 P4P. He should make everyone's top 10 Mw list.
He's easily the best Mw since Monzon. That says a lot.Comment

When you consider that Hopkins and Hagler are considered ATGs, it's impossible to dismiss Golovkin. Even if his resume is the weakest of the three (it's not), he's clearly the best on film. Who did Hagler beat? Who did Hopkins beat? They had very active Mw careers, but not against anyone special.GGG has had a good run. He blasted through lots of contenders. Oh I agree. Hopkins and Hagler beat a long stretch of guys I am sure GGG would beat. Hagler had the luxury of the other 3 fabulous 4 guys coming to him and he got schooled by one of them and possibly two(Duran, the smallest of them all). GGG crushes Brook in 5 and he sucks. Spence goes the distance with Mikey and he's great. Haha. It's all about perspective. And yeah, Hopkins run at 160 with his defenses is pretty atrocious when you look at it closely. GGG has done a lot and will be in the HOF regardless. When you consider that Hopkins and Hagler are considered ATGs, it's impossible to dismiss Golovkin. Good post and summarizes my thoughts exactlyComment

LOL, name a Mw you have footage of that you'd favor to beat him. Monzon and Walker are the only two anyone who knows Boxing can reliably name.
Steele and Robinson are probably even odds.
A guy like Valdez or Tiger could be a game challenger.Comment

ah so not WW/LMW then like caneloComment

At one point, I would've said yeah, but if you look at what Lomachenko is doing, it puts things in perspective. Hell, maybe Loma saw how GGG has wasted so much time and has learned lessons from that. Marketability plays a role; it has taken time for GGG to build up a fanbase, and he was avoided for a long time (high risk, low reward). Regardless, GGG will not go down as an ATG, simply because of the lack of really good fights, for whatever reason, I mean, 10 years into his pro career, after an already-extensive amateur career, and he's fighting Wade, then Brook.
Put GGG in with Hagler, or Hearns, or RJJ, or Monzon, I think he gives them a fight but loses to them allComment

I'm really not sure if you're serious...?
Roy Jones Jr.
Mike McCallum
James Toney
Andre Ward - fought at 160 for a bit. Probably would still favor him
Bernard Hopkins
Marvin Hagler
Etc...Comment
