Martin Ward is currently #8 ranked by IBF. Garcia said he would love his first title shot to come against Farmer who owns the IBF and signed with Hearn. If this happens this tells me they lining Garcia up for his first title shot at 130 and probably Farmer. It's also a great fight at MSG. Ryan Garcia drew a ton of fans back in Dec. I have NEVER seen a venue that packed or loud for the opening bout of a PPV. Fans were screaming louder for Garcia then anyone else that night but Canelo. He got fans in NYC and would help sell tickets for Joshua/Miller. Garcia is big enough that he can headline on his own. If Golden Boy lets Ryan Garcia fight on this card Eddie Hearn must be promising a title shot if he wins otherwise they would keep Garcia on Golden Boy cards.

Ryan Garcia v Martin J. Ward possible for Anthony Joshua card at MSG

      Phil Jay 10/04/2019

World Boxing News understands that American superstar-in-the-making Ryan ‘Wonder Boy’ Garcia is being considered for the Anthony Joshua undercard.

The 20 year-old phenom reached 18-0 on March 30 with second-round retirement of Jose Lopez. Due to the nature of the early finish, Golden Boy boss Oscar De La Hoya wants Garcia out fairly quickly.

That’s where the Joshua bill comes in. Garcia is being lined up to face British Martin Joseph Ward to keep within the theme of the UK v USA headlined show.

Garcia has attracted worldwide attention of late. A string of superb performances has most firmly believing Garcia will become a world champion soon.

De La Hoya has already predicted Garcia will win straps at multiple weights. High praise from a man who won ten world championships in five divisions himself.

For the DAZN show itself, Joshua tops the New York bill against American Jarrell Miller. All four of AJ’s top division belts will be up for grabs.

Experienced UK campaigners Callum Smith and Kell Brook are also pencilled in to feature.

Ideally, promoter Eddie Hearn wants both Smith and Brook to face US contenders. This is in order to keep his promise of a Trans-Atlantic showdown throughout the card.

Garcia v Ward would likely take place at super-featherweight and could have the Briton’s WBC International Silver title on the line.

More will be revealed soon as the Joshua v Miller event heats up for Madison Square Garden on June 1.

Kal Yafai defends his WBA super-flyweight title on the night. Whilst former amateur stars Joshua Buatsi and Josh Kelly are both lined up to feature.
JOSHUA v MILLER – CONFIRMED SO FAR:

      Anthony Joshua v Jarrell Miller

(WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles)

      Kal Yafai v Norberto Jimenez

      (WBA super-flyweight title)

      Callum Smith v TBA

(WBA ‘Super’ /WBC Diamond Super-middleweight title)

      Kell Brook v TBA

      (super-welterweight)

      Joshua Buatsi v TBA

      (light-heavyweight)

      Josh Kelly v TBA

      (super-welterweight)
      Possible:

Ryan Garcia v Martin J Ward

      (super-featherweight)

Ward's not listed under the IBF rankings. What he does have is the WBC International Silver (lol) belt so I assume Garcia is being moved towards the WBC belt.

The WBC belt is under control of Top Rank and ESPN who will never give Ryan Garcia a title shot if they don't have to. Unless Francisco Vargas somehow upsets Berchelt Ryan's first title shot will NOT be for that WBC belt. You can book that. This is a play for the IBF belt which Eddie Hearn has the champ under contract and like Golden Boy Hearn has deal with DAZN.

Whoops you're right if this is taking place at 130, I assumed this would be a 135 fight that's what Ryan's last few fights were at.

Ward is solidly European level at 130, but he was exposed against Tennyson. It's a fine fight for Garcia at this stage, but it only ends with Ward getting KO'd

At least this guy has fought above 130 before, even though his career has been focused in the 130 division.

But still... lmao, this guy hasn't had a 135 fight in over 4-5 years. He came in his 2nd last fight 4 pounds overweight @ 134.
