I mean, the ability for a non-heavyweight fighter to knock a mother****er into a 40-day coma is rare. I think me, Eubank, and Benn are only bastards capable of **** like that.Originally posted by jack_the_rippuhEubank's story is one of the most interesting of them all.
With the whole post-Watson stuff and how he always fought on reserve. I bet some of his fans were scared sometimes of what would happen if he didn't want to hold back.Comment

Eubank had a small band of supporters, but most people turned up or tuned it to his fights just in the hope of seeing him knocked off his perch

But yeah, in almost all his post-Watson Eubank fights Eubank would be stopping and asking the referee to consider the stopping the fight rather than taking the decision out of the officials hands and ending it himself. Often when he'd have a man in trouble, he'd just back off and pose for the rest of the round.
As for the Schommer fight, Eubank got it all wrong. He was way overweight on arrival in SA and found it very difficult to drain the weight off in that atmosphere, Schommer on the otherhand had spent two months training in SA so he was more acclimatised and prepared (Eubank only arrived in SA 15 days before the fight). They were fighting at 6,000 feet above sea level, and after three rounds you could see Eubank drinking huge mouthfuls of water (signs of dehydration) so he just had to tough it out and force the fight ala Hatton/Collazo because he was struggling with balance and concentration etc. I thought he deserved that win.Comment

On arrival at Nelson Mandela's house for dinner the day after he arrived in SA, Nelson said "It's an honour to meet you, Chris."Last edited by JuicyJuice; 07-15-2006, 01:50 PM.Comment

Juice, did you check out the Nigel appreciation thread.
Did you ever see that fight?
WHAT A LEFTHOOK! More brutal than Roy's uppercut hook on Montel Griffin.
Anwyay, that's a raw nickname they gave him. The monocled mutineer.
I wonder if after he got someone hurt if he would get kind of scared and haunted by the crippled ghost of Watson. I know I would've gotten kind of worried. I guess having crazy power isn't the best thing. Sometimes you don't even know your own strength.

Eubank didn't have any natural power, he did't knockout anybody in the amateurs and in his first pro bouts he's clearly feather-fisted. But he studied martial arts when he was 20/21 in NY and learned how to generate "two tonnes of pressure", he says it's all skill.Comment
