I didnt even realise people would pronounce it any other way but boxing fans arent the sharpest tools in the box, i couldn't believe how many people kept calling mikey garcia 'mickey garcia' swear it was half the forum lolComment

Demetrius Andrade is Cape Verdean. They aren't Latino. Their language is Portuguese-based but it's mixed with African languages too. I know tons of Cape Verdeans and a lot of them have Andrade as one of their 2-3 last names. They all pronounce it as "An-drayd".
I'm pretty sure they don't give a sh.it how you pronounce it in Spanish.Comment

I think that's because a lot of people are on their phone. If you try to type Mikey it usually auto-corrects to Mickey.Comment

Even then it should not even be spelled as pronounced.Demetrius Andrade is Cape Verdean. They aren't Latino. Their language is Portuguese-based but it's mixed with African languages too. It should be "an-dreyd." Not "an-drade" or "an-drayd."
No such anglicized pronunciation in those regions. If it is spelled Andrade, then pronounce it as it is spelled by the natives. Otherwise, spell it as Andreyd.Comment

The vowels A E I O U are pronounced differently in those places.
A as in Al, not aye, lake, bake, Drake...
E as in Emma, Evelyn, enamel, not ee, bee, see...
I as in illusion, infant, Iraq, not eye-raq...
O as in Onofre, not cow, bow, mow...
U as in Ubuntu, not union, Yuri...
So if it spelled drade, it can't be one syllable like drayd.
It should be dra-de.Last edited by rickJen; 04-06-2019, 11:37 AM.Comment

It actually depends where they're from
Spanish Speaking people will pronounce it like that.
However, Portuguese speaking people will pronounce it differently (Andrade's dad is from Cape Verde which is a Portuguese colony).
Because of his dad's Cape Verdean roots, this is how it's supposed to be pronounced:
The "de" is not pronounced as dee in Portuguese. It's pronounced as something like 'gee' (Like Triple G).Last edited by TheCell8; 04-06-2019, 12:55 PM.Comment

Main thing is it's got 3 syllables, which is correct, not 2 like many people think it has.It actually depends where they're from
