This is how you pronounce "Andrade"

I'm extremely irritated when sports hosts, commentators,
and everybody else pronounce it as An-drayd.

Clearly, it's not an Anglo-American name.
It's Galician and Portuguese, and names in those places and surrounding areas like Spain are pronounced thickly and hispanically.

Demetrius itself is not supposed to be pronounced as de-me-treeus.
    It should be pronounced, de-met-ri-yus.

lol so when the owner of the name insists on a specific pronounciation, we are to ignore that?

If it's a latino last name and they don't know how to pronounce it, damn straight I'm going to say it the way its SUPPOSED to be said. Not my fault they're ignorant

F#ck I been saying his name right the whole time, but been hearing the other way so often I just tried avoiding saying it at all to avoid looking like a potential dumbass.

Also we need a master thread of "how to prounounce boxers names" cuz there is a sh^t ton of guys on the way up with potential that have some hard to f#cking say names that I'm going harder core on nicknames to avoid having to say. Like that one TR 147 guy is going to be Mean Machine til he retires or I get rich enough to hire a language tutor part time to help me with this sh^t.

                  wrong.
it has the same spelling as a spanish name. that's all.

if you wanna get all self-righteous about that, then maybe you should consider changing alejandro, cesar, moises, jaime, juan, and the countless other spanish imports back to their originals.

at the end of the day, be courteous enough to follow what the owner of the name wants to be called. even if its wrong. there's already enough people out there disrespecting others by mispronouncing names. no need to add to that number unnecessarily.

Even the Spanish name, "Aguirre" sounded like the word, "acquire" when pronounced by english-speaking folks. Should be "a-guir-rre," more or less.
