Anyone else dislike Leonard's commentary work, find it pretty dull and not much substance to what he says? I find the majority to be so, but what's weird about it to me is that it wasn't always the case. His HBO commentary work from the 80's is a complete 180° difference from what's heard today. Anyone else notice this and if so, what would account for a fairly drastic change? Is it something as simple as him being in his 1980's Booger Sugar Ray Leonard style?

You are so right about his calling. He is ' the worst commentator ever ' period ! He actually sounds like someone who has absolutely no idea what to say. For a legendary boxer, it's bizarre but he sounds like someone who DKSAB! I honestly think he doesn't follow the modern game and it's fighters at all. Even Brian Kenny was starting to get annoyed, thats probably why he's been shipped over to co-host rather than call the fights. It's always the same kind of responses from him too, he literally doesn't know what to say except the cliches like 'styles make fights' or ' hes the hungrier fighter ' 'it's a 50/50 fight'! He's ****ing shockingly boring and dereft of thought.Comment

Glad you mentioned that as I intended to but totally forgot. Unfortunately though, he's a name and he'll be kept a around based on that recognition, potential fans'll see him and may not change the channel as quickly as they'd likely do otherwiseComment

Bland is being generous he for the most part SUCKS and brings little to nothing to the table. PBC/Showtime etc. should look to hire some ex boxers like Antonio Tarver for example ( if he's got his act together). Others boxers who it's unknown their play by play commentary but their analysis skills are on point like a Kelly Pavlik, Nate Campbell, Kevin Kelley etc in interviews come across very well. Im sure I'm forgetting some people I've thought of in the past but they need to be always on the lookout for new talent. I'm sure you guys can add on.Comment

I agree here that Lennox Lewis is, has been and always will be truly awful ringside. He has never gotten better. Ray is bad but in a bland, boring way. Brian Kenny has no business doing boxing matches except for when Floyd fights.
However "the worst" is Mauro Ranello. He is why the mute button on remotes was invented.Comment
