I pick Woods, obviously Hopkins would be the choice if he hadn't retired and if he was a genuine L/Heavy.

Woods against the rest for me he comes out on top, he is an established Light Heavy who has fought the likes of Jones (Lost), Johnson (Loss and Draw),Julio Gonzalez(Won)and Ole Klemetsen (Won) and is the current IBF Champion after defending the title twice!

Dont get me wrong Woods is no Roy Jones but he is a good fighter!

Micky, not sure whether Hopkins being a genuine light heavy or note matters. he beat Tarver, recognised by most as the light heavy champ following Jones jnr.

I'm also not sure that Woods can be the Light heavyweight champion until he beats Johnson and unifies against Erdei, Adamek or the WBO champ.

I think he could do that though. Johnson won't be able to fight like he naturally does forever, and Woods has the edge IMO over erdei, probably adamek as well.

Dont disagree mate, I believe Hopkins has truly retired so that puts him out of the equation, I never really rated Tarver, OK he beat Jones but Jones had faded badly by that time and I think it made Tarver look far better than he was (which was proven to me in his performance against a smaller older Hopkins)
I also agree that Woods needs to beat Johnson (third time lucky)but I still feel that Woods is about the best out there currently, its not the best division so that's why I say that!

Yep, I reckon if he beats Johnson he definitely has the best claim of the current titlists, and then he just needs one more impressive win against either a top contender or belt-holder to become the true champ.

You've gotta like Woods; He's a solid boxer, a solid puncher and he can adjust during fights if his opponenet is getting the better of him.

Yeah but until Woods beats Johnson, I think Johnson is the best right now. I agree that his drop off could be steep and quick. But if you watched the 2 fights with Woods, then you probably know that, regardless of scores, Johnson won both fights. He doesn't hold any belts, but he has gotten a bunch of raw deals because he is willing to fight in other people's backyards. He is simply a solid workman like fighter, but like you said this isn't the welterweight division right now.

Well Hopkins is but since he is retired then I suppose whoever has held a ABC title the longest may well be.......Clinton Woods maybe or Adamek.....I don't know.Glen Johnson is still no joke.

The lineage is loosely with Erdei, but the level of competition he's fought is very low, and it was won from Gonzalez who beat an old Michalczewski. And Erdei hasn't fought any of the tough US fighters, the way Michalczewski did.

I really see no single respectable LHW champion at the moment. The best LHW to me, is Adamek, esp if he can beat Briggs again in the rematch. Hopkins is retired, and he beat a Tarver that several LHW's would have easily beaten. Adamek probably would have stopped Tarver. Tarver was just ripe to be picked apart, which is why he was chasing money fights and not tough competition.

Let's see some unifications with Erdei, Adamek/Briggs, Woods, etc and then we'll know. I think the winner of Adamek/Briggs II is certainly the best LHW in my eyes, but it's way past time for a new unification to declare a true champion at 175.
