  • Gennady Golovkin Smiles, to fight Brandon Adams next on June 8.

Former middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs) has just been set to kick-off his new DAZN deal by taking on ‘The Contender’ winner Brandon Adams (21-2, 13 KOs) on June 8th. It’s also being reported that the venue for the fight hasn’t been set just yet, but that New York is the most likely destination.

Golovkin, 36, would enter this fight nine months removed from his majority decision loss to Canelo Alvarez in their rematch last September. Golovkin has since followed Canelo to the DAZN streaming service as he looks for a third opportunity to notch an official win against the Mexican superstar, but in order to do so he’ll probably need this opportunity to shake some of the ring rust off first, and he’ll get that chance against Adams.

Now, Adams, 29, might have won the reality TV competition by dominating Shane Mosley Jr. in its finals match, but that’s a very different level of competition than facing someone like Golovkin. Really, the best opponent Adams has probably faced in his professional career was Willie Monroe Jr. back in May 2014 — a fight Adams lost wide on the scorecards. Golovkin would then go on to knockout Monroe in dominating fashion just a year later.

So, to be blunt, the expectation will be that Golovkin easily steamrolls this bum Adams in this fight — and that’s a perfectly reasonable expectation, even as Golovkin ages.

This June 8th card on DAZN is also slated to have WBO middleweight titleholder Demetrius Andrade (27-0, 17 KOs) taking on Maciej Sulecki (28-1, 11 KOs) as a co-feature bout. Andrade, 31, comes into the bout off a successful title defense against Artur Akavov in January while Maciej, 29, escaped a late scare against Gabriel Rosado earlier this month.

If he gets paid eight figures to fight a pedestrian, why not?

Brandon "The Cannon" Adams is going to stop Golovkin.

Canelo better be scared. Adams is a ****ing beast and will show the world why he easily beat Mosley Jr.

Canelo might be so scared, he decides to lose to Jacobs. Jacobs would then duck Adams and lose to Canelo in the rematch, just to avoid fighting Adams.
