I got to disagree OP. It's hard to rate Mikeys performance against Spence because he didn't really give a "performance". Maybe he lost his edge. It would make since considering his long lay off and seeming lack of interest to improve/build his craft. When Mikey came back into the scene he gave off this vibe that he's so good that his craft had been mastered years ago, and that even 75% of him is leagues better than current belt holders. That got completely disproven against Spence. He showed himself to be completely one dimensional. He didn't go outside his comfort zone, calculating the "moral victory" to be worth it, where he just stands there like a stiff idiot catching shots. For someone that talked a big game in wanting to beat Spence he didn't exactly show it in there.
I will say Mikey is a very small welterweight. If you go back and look at his fight with Broner, he even looked small there too. Being a small boxer-puncher at 147 is a hard road to success. Mikey doesn't turn over his shots or throw enough volume like other small guys like Pacquiao, Duran and others did to excel at welterweight.Comment

I'm a huge Mikey Garcia fan but I was disappointed in his performance against Spence.
I think the entire Garcia family came off arrogant during the entire build up and throughout the fight.
If they thought Mikey was making a mistake fighting Spence then don't let him fight him. That was the first mistake.
I'm still trying to figure out what their game plan was. I heard Robert say Spence was open the whole fight and for Mikey to get closer. He was getting picked apart at a distance and beat to a pulp in close. I watched the fight again and I'm still flinching at the punishment he took.
Why didn't they stop the fight when it was obvious he wasn't going to win and was getting beat bad. That was mistake number two.
Finally, why was Mikey pumping his fist at the end of each round? That was just cringey. That tells me he was just hoping to make it to the final bell.Comment

Mikey will be fine. This was a similar one sided fight to Lomachenko/Rigo and Mayweather/JMM, especially the latter. I think he will still campaign at 147 and I have little doubts he could compete with the likes of Porter/DSG/etc. Spence very well may be one of the special fighters of this era. As he gets the chance to prove it against the other top WWs and then in particular with another P4P top fighter in Crawford, this loss won't be all that bad. I mean he got outclassed and dominated, but showed a lot of toughness and made up for the Salido fight where people questioned his heart.Comment

No credit from me whatsoever, people acting like he took the fight for free. He got paid millions to run away for 12 rounds. He conned the fans.Comment

You're talking to a guy who thought Zab Judah beat Danny Garcia"Clearly", in a split decision loss where he outlanded Bradley in meaningful/power punches landed in 9 out of 12 rounds.
Bradley raising his hand in the air after the end of every round was a nice little psychological tactic but it only worked on weak minds. Marquez landed the better punches in more rounds than Bradley.
JMM was robbed.

Boooh! Nonsensical and very shallow. Dude talked a lot of crap and got bullied. A smarter fighter would have gone up gradually by challenging decent opponents until he gets accustomed with the division. Dude took himself too seriously and got his humility card returned to him by a smackdown. He was foolish and ****y; not brave at all. There is a big difference between both principles. Ignorance is bliss as they say. He was blissful in his self confidence and lack, there of, of self awareness!Comment
