Sure we'd like to see him face Porter and Thurman before he's crowned the "absolute" best but those guys haven't exactly been volunteering to fight him either. Almost like before you call yourself the best of the HW division fans believe you have to fight AJ first see how that works?
What's the problem with what he said. He said he has a ways to go before he's considered the best. It's a fair opinion even if a lot of folks already feel like Spence is the best. He didn't criticize Spence for thinking or feeling like he is the best.

I'm not sure if he has ways to go. Thurman is the man to beat in the division. After his last fight it's fair to say Thurman has ways to go before anyone consider him in top form. I don't think Spence get any credit for beating a 40 year old Pacquiao so he shouldn't have to go through him for any consideration. The dream fight would be Crawford. However, Crawford had a spectacular win over a horrible WW and a so-so win over a decent but not good WW. Spence is dominating everyone they put in front of him so I don't know why he wouldn't be considered the best.

yeah a pac fight doesnt do much for him legacy wise...its really more about a business move as a ppv with him is likely to do 6-700k which would be a nice add to anyones resume...

but yeah theres thurman and crawford....so when wilder says "a ways to go" hes not really lying because who knows when we will get those

Hopefully PBC has Spence unify with porter in his next fight and I have Spence stopping porter. After that go for a defense against Garcia, and then a match with manny. After that, Spence will be big enough to take on Crawford and that level at that time next year will make for a guaranteed 1-2m ppv buy fight with all the hype and promotion on both fox and ESPN. Lurking for a first defense by either would be Thurman

Well said. While its true, none of his contemporaries are really clamoring to fight him, its also true that he still needs to eventually fight these guys to prove he's the best. Porters now waking up realizing he needs speak up on unifying, and not just in rematching Thurman....

Thurman was injured and in no mood to talk tough because he was out of shape - unable to work out and thereby toughless by no choice of his own. But he's getting back to form.

Danny might be the only one avoiding Spence for a while because he's taylor made for Spence, and he doesnt have a belt so he might get away a bit longer from potentially getting smashed.

Nevertheless Spence also needs to fight him...."Spence has a ways to go" at being the best at 147. No disrespect there in the least bit. Its just an observation.

I get what Wilder is saying. I just don't think he has to fight them to be considered the best. Right now he is the best. If Thurman can get back to form and beat him then he can once again be considered the best. To me Crawford has the longest ways to go to prove himself at WW. There's no doubt he's a special fighter but Horn and Benavidez is not the measuring sticks.

no they arent...neither is khan....and honestly ive quetioned hardcore crawford fans(i like him very much as well just not as hardcore on him as some)...like what is the future holding for this guy? and the best they could come up with is maybe prograis, ramirez and josh taylor.....those arent going to help him and move the sticks

if spence gets like porter and someone else really good its still going to be between him and thurman imo...especially depending on who thurman fights/beats in his next couple of fights....we shall see
