Comments Thread For: Hearn on U.S. Market: Feels Like We're Getting Great Momentum

With each show in the U.S., the growing pains heal a little easier for Eddie Hearn. For years the leading promoter in the United Kingdom, Hearn's Matchroom Boxing USA model took some time to get off the ground but looks to have hit its stride with its recent run along with what lies ahead. A big step forward came in the success of a recent DAZN-streamed show live from Philadelphia, which featured a healthy mix of local and Irish flavor to help kick off St. Patrick's Day weekend.

It will be intersting to see if these amateur stars signed can become stars in a strictly streaming service. It just seems impossible to grow a fan base off of an app that not even uniform among boxing fans let alone casuals and potential sports fans. I also get the sense that without Golden Boy and specifically Canelo, dazn would not have the Mexican fans that follow Canelo.

So without Canelo they would not have the Canelo fans? How do you come up with this? Some next level critical thinking right here.

What next, without boxing they would not have boxing fans?

Eddie had his dad's business and name as his starting point over here in the UK, hence why his rise to top promoter in the country was so swift.
What he's now learning through experience - and to his credit, he is actually learning - is that the US boxing market and fans are completely different to what goes on here in the UK. The family business and name didn't mean as much over there straight off the bat, not when there's already established promoters like Arum, Haymon and the newer but still successful (thanks mainly to Canelo) DLH, to name but a few.
Over here he only really had Warren to compete with, who's dodgy client handling had already soured his name, and is only in the last couple of years becoming successful again.

DAZN is doing decent considering it just started...Matchroom USA on the other hand below average!

Haven't had that signature solo Matchroom USA event yet but does have AJ vs Big Baby Miller coming up at least
