Why did Spence hold back against Mikey ?

If you watched the fight, There are times when Spence can go for the kill but decided to box instead and near the end of the rounds he’s not punching and waiting for Mikey to do something.

I thought Spence was pressing for a stoppage from the 9th round on, but Mikey is skilled enough to survive if he sets his mind to it. Mikey was just covering up and trying to block all the shots coming his way. Not sure what else Spence could have done aside from just recklessly go in and try to land big shots. But that would have given Mikey the only chance he would have and allow him to get some hard counters off.

For the mexican fans. there’s no need to put Mikey down. Winning a shutout is enough. a KO would be overkill.

Mikey was trying to survive in the ring. It’s hard to stop a fighter that’s bunkered down like that. Maybe a little more body work. Spence was trying to press the action but Mikey has experience and knew how to survive.

No he didn't hold back. Mikey is smart enough to know how to survive and that's pretty much all he was doing in the second half of the fight.

he didnt hold back.. he knew that if he fought Mickey close he would get tagged...he took advantage of his long reach...and kept Mickey at bay...Mickey was blocking alot of those shots Spence threw at him

It was a perfect, fantastic amazing performance by Spence. He threw 1045 punches and landed 345 punches. Mikey only landed 75 punches so that's as one side a fight as you are going to see between two champion. He won by 120 to 107 and yet you start thread after thread trashing him. If Spence had knocked Mikey out in the 1st round I am sure you would find fault with that too. Spence fought great. He is the champ on top of the world and set for another big win over Pacquiao and a very big payday. After that bring on Crawford and Thurman.

It’s hard to KO somebody who is in survival mode to last 12 rounds.

And also, Spence is a basic fighter without much creativity.

Mikey was undefeated, a four divisional champion and has never been stopped before. That's why he held back against Garcia.
