Seems the top guys in this division are automatically regarded as the best in boxing. Why ?its not as if any of the current crop took over the crown from mayweather/pacquiao in fact theyve barely fought anyone between them. Just cause a division was good doesnt mean it is anymore. Eye test wise they dont look any better to me than other divisions.... probably worse than quite a few others. Spence crawford far from a superfight in my eyes, these two guys are getting hyped up like two legends, its just a run of the mill fight, but because its at welterweight OH MY GOD SUPERFIGHT THAT NEEDS TO MARINATE DOE,US BOXING FANS ARENT WORTHY
Whats actually so great about the welterweight division any more?

US dominated divisions will always be regarded more highly whether they are qualitatively better or not - they're the ones get the biggest events and the most promotion in the biggest boxing nation. Honestly I don't bother getting into the whole 'strong division / weak division' thing any more anyway cos it's ultimately pointless and unprovable, and anyway generally only really used as precursor argument to fanboys and haters doing their thing.Seems the top guys in this division are automatically regarded as the best in boxing. With due respect to the many, many committed and knowledgeable US boxing fans on here there's also plenty who basically never watch boxing that ain't on a major US network and consider anything that takes place in the rest of the world (with a few exceptions) to be virtually beneath notice - or at best, of little interest.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 03-16-2019, 04:56 AM. -
Manny Pacquiao is still there who isn't American yet is one of the biggest names in the sport. That's one reason.
Terrence Crawford is the #1 or #2 ranked P4P fighter in the world by most credible sources. That's another reason.
Errol Spence is another young, top P4P talent who reportedly gave the great Floyd Mayweather fits in sparring. That's a third reason.
Keith Thurman is undefeated and had unified two belts until recently. That's a fourth reason.
Why wouldn't people think this is a great division? There aren't many others at the moment with this depth of world class talent.
Historically 147 lbs has always been of interest and it remains so now. Don't be mad just because there are so many Americans at the top of it.

It's simple, most would disagree with evaluation based on your eye test Madison. Welter is, and historically has been, one of the most talent loaded division, so whoever gets to separate themselves from the rest in the division gets high accolades.Comment

What else is there? The other divisions are not that great either. You look at Wilder getting huge credit by just beating a 40 yr old nobody like Ortiz. Then behave as if he beat a prime Mike Tyson and can't even be motivated to unify multiple titles for $12.5 million. It's not only crazy but effing shameless. Fans don't deserve these embarrassing type of fighters.Last edited by Bullrider; 03-16-2019, 07:00 AM.Comment

Spence vs Crawford is a superfight. If you don't like it then don't watch it.Maybe it won't happen. It doesn't need to marinate. Blame Arum for that. He is Mr, marinate. Welterweights have some very good fighters. Now that Mikey is at welterweight most pfp top 10 lists have welterweights Mikey, Spence and Crawford in the top 10. What other weight lass has 3 in the top 10? Middleweights and light heavyweights are both strong and there are good boxers in all the weight classes.Comment
