I got back late from Disney World and only saw the last few rounds. I see some crying robbery, but the punch stats show Porter out landed Ugas. You see cries of robbery after basically every fight on this site, so it's hard to know what to believe.

Very close fight. Awkward looking fight too for some reason. If I had to lean one way I would say Ugas edged it, as he seemed to throw more effective punches.

Ugas wasn't robbed and he didn't "dominate" like he said. He was game though, and brought the fight to Porter in Porter's new style.

Ugas clearly the better talent over Porter..Ugas should get another title fight next..I'd watch a Ugas fight before Porter...

Hope you enjoyed yourself, I had a great time there with the family a few years back. Imo, Porter edged him in activity, he didnt look spectacular or his usual wild self because he took on the role of the "boxer," and kept circling the taller man. He would rush in from anywhere or wherever he was, but not before posturing with quick jittering jerking moves, in attempts to feint and to catch the taller man off gaurd. He pretty much did that the entire fight, looking amateurish and somewhat ineffective, especially when they'd constantly tie up. But Shaun WAS connecting! They just seemed lighter than usual, while he missed wildly with the heavy looking hooks that "should of" connected.

Ugas stayed tough "looking" primarily in the center of the ring with a tight looking defense. When Porter would rush in, Ugas landed the harder "looking" body shots throughout the entire fight - with telling blows to the head only from rnd 8 on of the fight. Ugas seemed frustrated and started with the taunting during the rounds, taunting with the spreading of his arms, taunting with lowering his arms to his sides, doing some wind up bolo posturing to no affect, even yelling at Porter.

The worst part to me, was the stare downs he directed at Porter at the end of the rounds - he believed he coudve gotten into Porters head with it. Nothing was further from the truth. To me, it was a dumb thug like strategy that Porter paid no attention to - whatsoever. Hopkins got away with it with lesser opponents. The thing is, Porters a little too "professional" for that caveman strategy. And Ugas should have picked up on that early when Porter turned a bit "thug like" after Ugas hit him after the bell. Porter took exception to things that counted, not Ugases failed attempts at playground intimidation. Ugas couldnt cut the ring off and looked like a deer in headlights when Porter would "stop" in front of him with the jerking posturing - Ugas was LOST just as much as Porter was. To me, Porter kept him honest, revealing the taller man limitations

In all fairness, I thought the fight should have been ruled a draw. I thought Ugas landed the cleaner punchers and was the more active one with his punches as well.

However, Ugas did started to fade a bit down the stretch but Porter makes a mistake each and every time he decides to stand erect, by boxing on the outside, while circling his opponents. It's because he lacks the necessary height and reach in order to do so. Moreover, he gets hit way too often fighting that style.

Also, when he rushes in to ambush his opponents, he often gets countered effectively too. He needs to revert back to his old style of infighting by bum rushing and throwing punches non stop in order to become his more effective self again.

Ugas, to me, shouldve lived the entire fight in jab mode utilizing his superior height and reach. He seemed to "rely" on taunting to bait Porter to come in, expecting his usual reckless head first "ambush". Ugas didnt cut the ring off or walk his man down effectively with a jab. The bigger taller man pretty much stayed in a cocoon, until Porter did the initiating.

I don't think Porter should revert to his old style because it sucks(!)..lol..He's gonna turn into one of those gatekeepers, and be worse when he gets older and slows down. Every opponent is gonna have his "head down rush forward swing wild" number. "Non stop" punching will only work against him - getting him countered and Ugas did a good of that.

I think he needs some of that effective Floyd Patterson/Mike Tyson peek-a-boo strategy, with the "gliding" in & out - right & left "shuffling" (Porter usually "ends up" off balanced in front of his opponents fists & face), NOT the amateurish "bouncing" he uses to come in. Bouncing is cool from the outside, to maybe look entertaining for the crowd, but man(!), not while "coming in!" Bruce Lee said as much, so it counts..lol.. Its also the issue I have with Miller, he doesnt bounce, but he does a kind of walking in that AJ will "see" a mile away....

Shuffling is part of boxing 101 (forgive my preaching! its Sunday..lol), and I'm surprised so many "professionals" don't do/use it. Wilder even succumbed to the 'walking in' against Fury, he was so used to having the advantage of being the taller man, he barely got in on Fury, while Fury USED his height the way he was supposed to. The shorter man needs a "different" skill set to work with. I'm a stickler for that jab and proper shuffle..

A draw would also be appropriate, but I'm glad Porter got the nod, because he came with a "plan" (as wack as it was) and used it(!), while Ugas was performing like he was expecting or waiting for something totally different from Porter! I really have NO IDEA what his strategy wouldve been if Porter didn't initiate - counter only with power shots?? His plan B was severely lacking...

If Cus D'amato were alive or if Kevin Rooney (please no Teddy Atlas) could lend a helping hand, Porter can be more polished. He works hard, he's always fit, has a "professional" mindset....I'd hate to see him turn into a gatekeeper. His pops is part to blame for that reckless style, ...they definitely need more tried & proven perspectives in training camp. Please forgive my talkative post. I woke up early with the after affects of coffee that I seldom drink....
