Winky Wright vs Floyd Mayweather Jr at 154

Isn't this stylistically a horrible match up for Floyd? Who would you pick to win this fight?

Interesting fight. This fight almost happened. Winky had high activity and walked you down with his high guard. He was hard to hit cleanly let alone hurt. Floyd had trouble with good constant jabs. It would have been a tedious fight, as Floyd would use the ring and cut down Winky's work rate by half. But on the other hand Floyd was a small JMW and Winky fought well at 160 too. Winky was thought to be an average puncher but against his pressure Floyd would feel the weight of his punches by accumulation. Floyd would try to pot shot him but I see Winky edging him in the end because of his activity, skill and size.

I think Wright would win. If they were the same size Mayweather would probably win but Winky was much bigger and was always a 154 pound boxer who later fought very well at 160. Wright beat some very good fighters and was very hard to hit cleanly. He had a right jab that landed often on everybody.

Yeah, Winky is the only boxer I can think of that blocked punches without people automatically assuming the opponent landed. He's a nightmare-matchup for nearly anybody, especially a pot-shooter susceptible to jabs.

I can guarantee you Floyd wouldn't sit there and let Winky jab him all night. He'd probably upset Winky's rhythm with movement and counter the jab to get Winky thinking. Floyd would drop that jab to the body hard like he did on Corrales. He'd need that type of performance. Same blueprint. Floyd would've probably landed a career high in body shots.

Would Wright's output be the same if Floyd found a way to counter the jab? I think it would dip a little and give Floyd enough openings to steal rounds with cleaner shots landed. I think Wright would shell up just enough at times to allow Floyd to land flashier shots and pile up rounds where not much landed. It would've been a toss-up fight looking back. Wright fans would claim robbery.

              A fight Floyd ducked.

Winky beats him comfortably, But in all likelihood he get robbed by the judges.

You guys never learn do you. Mayweather mythical match ups are absolutely useless.

Mayweather's greatest attribute is the ability to take away the strengths of his opponents, leaving them with only their weaknesses.

So whatever Winky Wright has, speed, power, length, work rate, doesn't matter, first thing Floyd gonna do when he gets into that ring is to take all of that away.

Only close Floyd fights were Castillo one and Maidana one, and I didn't even think Maidana won more than 4 rounds in that fight, and he was injured in Castillo 1.

Also, those two guys had the benefit of refs who were hell bent on letting them get away with breaking every single rule in the book.

Winky wasn't really active but he had good defense length and nice jab

Who gives a fùck about Winky. Only guys he beat were smaller guys coming up. Bronco McKart was his best win at his weight. I wouldn't even know who Bronco McKart was if it wasn't for Fight Night 3.
