Comments Thread For: Erislandy Lara, Brian Castano Battle To a Split Draw Verdict

I thought Lara won 7-5... if I remember correctly, I gave Castaño rounds 4, 6, 7, 11, and 12..
I thought Lara landed the cleaner punches. While BC was busier, he wasnt really landing cleanly... he abandoned the left hook to the body which was scoring well.
I'm a big Lara fan but I knew when he gave away rounds 11 and 12 this fight would be called a draw...
I'd like to see Castaño vs Hurd in a phone booth brawl!!....Comment

I never go by the numbers. They are never accurate one way or another. castano threw a lot of punches that never got to the target. If you watch the fight round by round Lara won 7 rounds. again I blame him for not closing the show. He cruised in 11 and 12 round instead of pressing the pedal to the max. Why he hasn't learn is beyond my comprehension.Comment

And well. As I've pointed out today already, scoring is subjective - you say Lara win 7, I saw Castano win 7. The judges were split 3 ways... a draw ain't a bad result.Comment

Re
Hammer is actually as tough as his macho histrionics would suggest. He absorbed some big shots, and discouraged Ortiz from his goal of a knockout.
Hammer is also a BIG dude, dwarfing even Ortiz, so he landed some thudding blows that contributed to Ortiz deciding to box this one out. He didnt throw a lot, but when did, Ortiz felt it.
