  • Comments Thread For: Fighter of The Decade? Mayweather, Ward Top List of Candidates

By Michael Rosenthal - To be selected as Fighter of the Year is a rare, legacy-defining honor and is often among the proudest moments in the career of any boxer. To be selected Fighter of the DECADE? That's reserved for only the greatest in the sport. As we approach the end of the 2010s, it's natural to begin speculating...

Floyd hasn’t fought a boxer in 5 years and Ward hasn’t fought in 3. The fact that they’re even considered is a joke.

A fighter can have a dominant 10 year stretch, but if it doesn't neatly line up with the calendar decades, then they get shafted.

Mayweather is the best fighter to have fought for any chunk of this past decade. (With the possible exception of Loma, but we don't have enough evidence yet to put him above Mayweather, and won't for many years.)

Crawford I can see getting it, and I wouldn't think that was a terrible decision.

Ward got outboxed by Kovalev, in his prime. Canelo has the benefit of some dodgy decisions too, but his resume is much better than GGGs. None of them really deserve it.

Wlad was good, but he got beaten clearly twice. His best decade of fighting didn't line up with the calendar.

I think I'd have to say it should go to May. If not May, then Bud. Either one would be an okay outcome. Loma would also be okay, since he is clearly the best P4P current boxer, and is boxing elite. I'd put him third.

Anything else would be a bad decision.

Sadly, I can see Canelo winning it, the same way he won the first fight with GGG.

Hauser will choose Canelo. Hauser always a fan of fighters moving up in weight, and he was talking about Canelo since Welterweight, though started at 140 at 15 years of age

Crawford has too much of an atrocious resume to even be considered.

It's what a fighter did in the decade, who he beat, what he achieved. Not who fought the most you ******.

Mayweathers resume for this decade far surpasses anyone else.

Probably Mayweather or Pacquiao if he picks up a big win to close things out.
