  • Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Explains Reasons For Tyson Fury-ESPN Deal

TYSON FURY HAS stolen a march on his heavyweight rivals and is in prime position to crack the American market after signing his US broadcast deal with ESPN, by far the biggest sporting network Stateside. It is a landmark deal for the rejuvenated Tyson following on from his stunning resurrection against Deontay Wilder in December, where he proved that he remains the main man to be reckoned with amongst the heavy mob.

Why did he have to sign with Arum. He couldn’t have signed with ESPN with Warren being his promoter? Seems like Arum has some sort of exclusive contract with ESPN and that’s the same thing he sued Haymon for

We are determined to make it because Tyson wants it, Deontay and Shelly want it, so it is up to us to try and get it done and we will work hard to do so.
Nice of him to admit he doesn't want it.

So is Tyson supposed to sit in the middle and not make the money his accomplishments deserve? As well as always being the away fighter when the big fights come around.
I agree 100% with Frank on this. Fury deserves his own deal too

Negotiations are still very much going on and that is where we are at. Even Deontay has come out and said there are no contractual issues from his side so there should be no problem in making the fight if that is the case.

Yep. We already know Warren, Fury, Wilder, & Finkell will make the fight. They've done it before with relative ease. Matter of fact they had a done deal with a 50/50 split before Fury decided to tie his ship to ESPN.

The bottom line of it is that nobody is trying to put a spanner in the works of making the fight with Wilder. Even last night Shelly Finkel (Wilder’s manager) and I were trying to work out a deal.
Well there is one person who is already talking about putting an interim fight on the app & having Wilder sign with a network instead of just making the fight the fans want to see. It's obvious to anyone with a developed brain who is throwing monkey wrenches in the deal to make the fight.

Money talks, they have to make the best fights, otherwise people will not pay.

Does Haymon want it. He only lets his C class fighters fight in other networks.

Notice how Frank didn't mention the $100 million that everyone keeps referring to? Because that was never the case. Arum shot the supposed five fight deal in a recent interview. We all need to stop acting like we have any clue what these fighters are getting paid, no one knows except the interested parties themselves.

He quotes "85 million stateside subscriptions"? At $5.99 a month! There should be enough capital to make any fight happen. Through ESPN+ alone. If those numbers are anywhere near accurate.

I'm waiting to see if Deontay is going to sign a big money contract next lol AJ and Fury got theirs so I'm wondering if or when Wilder will get his.

LOL, 85 million for the linear ESPN channel, not ESPN+. The latter has I believe over 3M subscribers.
