I'm always down with the history stuff from all eras. Coincidentally, I told someone the other day that I can't put Greb in my top 5 P4P because there is no footage of him.
It's a shame that there is no footage of Harry Greb. Going by his resume, with all the fights he had and all the names he beat, the guy must have been something really special.
Maybe someday some old film reels of him will be found in someone's basement or attic.
It also sucks that Joe Louis' career was interrupted by WWII. Who knows how many more successful defenses of the heavyweight title he could have made.
As it is the 25 consecutive defenses he had is incredible.
I don’t see why any true boxing fan wouldn’t be interested in discussing or researching the history of the sport they love . That being said iam quite surprised by a few of your comments on said topic . I find it all fascinating , and I’ve studied deep into the heavyweight division and have doing the same for other divisions . I get a division done about every 3 months . I wish there was more footage but a lot of the old articles available are very intersting aswell . I think that anyone who hasn’t or isn’t doing this research should start as it is super interesting but may take up the better part of your free time haha . Iam 35 years old and read more articles from back in the day more than I do recent stuff . In fact this site needs to do more stuff on the history of the sport and the fighters that reigned Supreme in past eras . Right now I am fascinated with the 1920s as said in this mailbag it is the era where boxing truly developed . More great reads are on John l Sullivan , there is some good stuff and it’s crazy to see how much the sport has evolved and how different our culture was then .
