Emanuel Steward Interview: On Klitschko, Taylor, Mayweather, More

After reeling off a dozen or so consecutive wins against journeymen in the heavyweight division former world champion Shannon Briggs will step into the ring with current IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in September. Faced with that prospect, as well as, taking on training the middleweight title holder Jermain Taylor and returning contender Kermit Cintron, we caught up with Emanuel Steward while working at his Kronk Gym in Detroit to get some thoughts on past and future events for his fighters.

We touch upon Steward’s opinion as to the cause of the communication glitch between himself and Taylor during the Wright fight as well as what is the facts behind the rumor of Cintron versus Mayweather Jr.. [details]

Very much so. This is the same guy that went 12 rounds with a 40+ year old Foreman.

Big difference. Foreman was 6 years younger when he fought Holyfield and lost just about every round. Foreman was 48 years old when he fought Briggs and got ROBBED horribly from what I heard.

Foreman did get robbed, but then Briggs came close to upsetting Lewis in back and forth shootout.

I'd love for someone to name a more dangerous opponent for Wlad who isn't locked up with DKP or in a WBC fight.

Briggs has the size and the power to give Wlad a really good fight, and with the chance to be back in the spotlight, headlining MSG after being reduced to clubfighting practically, you can be assured that he will be motivated to give his all. If Wlad were fighting Brock, some of you would go off on him for fighting a guy who's not dangerous. If Wlad were fightng Toney, some of you would go off on him for fighting a short guy. If Wlad.... etc etc ad infinitum et all, etc.

Let's face it. This is probably the most exciting HW matchup of the year. Name a HW fight that has more potential for fireworks and a big KO than this one? There isn't one.

I guess the real question is "If not Briggs, who?"

Sad as it sounds, out of today's bunch, Briggs could be one of the most dangerous opponents for anybody.
