I remember Lampley going on Roy Firestone's show and saying Douglas had zero chance and he was just there to make a check. He didn't even bother sending a spy to Buster's camp.
And if he had checked Mike at his training camp, it was a freaking mess.
Greg Page was kicking his a$$ in sparring . Mike was fkn Japanese h0$ . Flew back to the US some 3 weeks before the fight b/c he was bored in Tokyo.
After the fiasco, Don King hired Richie Giacceti. Richie was the biggest joke that came out of Cus's camp.

Richie Giachetti was Larry Holmes's trainer. Holmes was one of the top 10 of all time. Tyson fans have an excuse for absolutely everything.
Douglas fought superbly the night he beat Tyson. He was lazy and undisciplined for the rest of his career, but that night he reached his full potential and was brilliant.
He would have given peak Tyson a very hard night and could well have beaten him.

This was one of my first memories of Boxing - the other being watching a severely weight-drained Nicky Piper squander a big early lead against Nigel Benn.
Back to Tyson-Douglas though; I'll never forget the long count and Don King stampeding down the stairs like an angry rhino for as long as I have the ability to recall memories.

Memorable night for sure. I live in Central Ohio,the home of Buster Douglas.I was rooting for him. After the first 2 rounds,you could sense something special could happen.As the rounds went on it was obvious an upset was likely to happen. Then Tyson floored Douglas with that uppercut near the end of the round and it seemed a shame and a waste of an excellent performance by Buster. Then the next round,Buster came out ,dominated Tyson and KO'd him the next round. I was watching with some friends and we were jubilant.
The cool thing was after the HBO coverage,we switched to Channel 10 TV news, a local Columbus OH affiliate, and watched their coverage of this upset. Cool night that I will never forget.

It's almost as if the stars were aligned that night to humble Tyson.

What if he had floored Douglas in the middle of the 9 th rd instead at the end? the bell sounded exactly as Buster made it to his feet.

3 minutes later, the sight of the bully stumbling like a drunkyard looking for his mouthpiece will never be forgotten: not too many people in the arena sounded or looked sorry for him.

I certainly wasn't.

Richie only got in on the Tyson camp after the loss in Tokyo. He was still a joke of a trainer.
Holmes got good with Eddie Futch . Eddie wouldn't train Larry for his fights against Michael Spinks as he both trained them.
Nobody made an excuse. Douglas losing to Holy , I guess was due to him being lazy too?
That lazy Tyson in Tokyo still put Douglas down for 10 seconds + .
