Did Roy Jones fight anyone as good as Tarver/Johnson at his peak?

Roy fought very good competition throughout his career, his wins over Hill and Griffin were probably his most impressive performances. I don't like the way you try and belittle his wins over Toney and Hopkins (which is silly), but the whole reason you made this thread is because you don't like Roy, obviously.

Roy can be criticized for a few dodges- Michalczsewski being the huge one that hurts his legacy. He took less money to fight Woods when HBO wanted the Jirov fight and offered more money for it. It was really towards the end of his LHW run that he went into cruise control a little. But he always put on very good performances, no matter who he faced, until Tarver came along.

The hit to his legacy will always be that he spent all those years at LHW and never became the LHW champ.

But as for level of competition OVER HIS CAREER, and how he performed, he's light years beyond Hopkins and Toney. Remember Hopkins had a rematch gift-wrapped and laid at his feet and turned it down. Toney always seemed to have a key loss come about to ruin a Roy rematch, like his losses to Griffin. Roy would have beaten both of them in rematches.

Toney was weight-drained, Hopkins was still getting experienced and far from the boxer he became.

So I look back at the list of fighters Roy fought and I'm not familar with the Telescos and the Antoine Byrds on his mightily competitive ledger.

I became aware of Clinton Woods afterwards, and he was a decent enough pro, still green then and not as good as he is now, a couple of notches behind Glen Johnson at the time.

The question is, did Roy ever face anyone as good as the two men who sparked him while he was in his prime?
the fact of the matter is that he still beat hopkins and toney regardless

eh maybe not everyone he beat he dominated but he usualy won 8-4 rounds or more everytime, so he would clearly beat or dominate everyone hows that?

I'm shocked, coming from a Felix Sturm sympathizer. LOL, you should know all about dominating lesser fighters considering Sturm lost to the only good fighter he ever fought. Of course you would support Roy. I bet if Sturm retires without another loss but without ever fighting a good opponent, you'll claim he's one of the best middleweights ever.

To answer Anorak's question, he never fought a better fighter than Tarver or Johnson at his peak other than Toney, but we all know about Toney's weight problem before that fight. Montell Griffin comes closest I guess, but Tarver absolutely dominated him.

Virgil Hill, Montell Griffin, and Thomas Tate.He was the first to ko all three.I don't think Tate was ever stopped again plus he went the distance with Julian Jackson who had one of if not the best right hands in the history of the sport.
