Wow, that makes me feel old. I remember watching many of his fights and he was 60?!?

On another note, I never saw that crying video. I watched it 5 times and as much as I tried, I simply could not hold back from laughing my ass off each and every time. A touching moment for sure, but absolutely impossible not to laugh. Weird.

Gomez probably emptied what was left of his peak vs. Pintor, but still gave a great performance vs. LaPorte. It's documented he spent a lot of his training camp out into the late hours in the build-up to Nelson too. He did well early but lost his legs halfway through.
Gomez-Pintor was one of those ferocious wars that takes something from both fighters. The pace of the fight made it really punishing for both in the penultimate rounds. Crazy to think both guys actually went on to win another world title after it.

On a side note. Absolutely love Juan LaPorte, he literally fought EVERYONE. Such a resilient fighter man, they don’t make them like that anymore.

So sad: I saw him beat Barry Michael @ Blazers night club, Windsor back in 1987 & got to meet him after the fight. I still have the program he signed for me.
