He showed little punching power after getting caught even against journeyman bums over in Mexico.
Let's put an end to this Margarito and plaster nonsense.

I agree.
The OPs point is that there's no proof that he used against Cotto. Except there is circumstantial evidence including pictures from after that Cotto fight. But no one will ever be sure because his wraps weren't inspected after that fight. However, we all know what Cotto did to him in the 2nd fight and that fight was markedly different. In fact, Margarito never knocked out another opponent in his career again after being caught with hand wraps. Suddenly Margacheato winds up punching like a wet noodle once he's under the microscope? There's a lot of smoke with that fire.
Then the OP goes on to try to hand-waive it away against Mosley because Mosley was caught doing steroids 10 years prior. Guess what? Two wrongs don't make a right and Mosley passed the drug test for the Margacheato fight. Margacheato was caught, literally red handed, loading his gloves. So don't try blowing smoke up our a$$es by making excuses that mean nothing. It's amazing how some people will pretzel their own moral system trying to make excuses.
As for the case itself:
Javier Capetillo said he put two new knuckle pads in his bag but when he went to wrap Marg's hands he pulled out two old ones. Even if true what were old, loaded knuckle pads even doing in his bag?!?!? That doesn't compute. But I think we can figure out why they were in his bag from his own words. "I started panicking the week of the fight,” he said. “I knew we were in deep s__t, and we couldn’t tell anyone." Those are the words out of his mouth. In court that's called motive, folks.
Che Guevara, the inspector responsible for supervising Margarito's hand wrapping, testified that he had never seen that sort of pad used before, apparently missing it being slipped into the initial wrap before Richardson's objections. Another inspector, Mike Bray, said during questioning that he had seen the pads and that they were "moist and dirty looking with a white substance smeared across the pad, like a cast plaster."
"The conduct of both Mr. Margarito and Mr. Capetillo was unacceptable and threatened the health and safety of another licensee," Carrie Lopez, the director of the state's Department of Consumer Affairs, which licenses fighters, told The Associated Press. "Today's action shows that both the Department of Consumer Affairs and the California State Athletic Commission take the issue of boxer safety very seriously, and will move quickly when a licensee's actions threaten the safety of others."
That's damning right there. But here's my favorite piece of this whole sorry affair, the court decision. https://caselaw.findlaw.com/ca-court...l/1541145.html
I want to point out a very key part of that decision:
That's right. When they went to court Margacheato and Co. didn't even dispute the fact that he was caught with loaded hand wraps. The entire basis of their appeal was that the boxing commission didn't have the right to suspend them even though they HAD been caught with loaded wraps. This was effectively laughed out of court. For ANYONE who thinks somehow it didn't happen, even they didn't dispute it happened."Because the underlying facts in this case were undisputed, and there was no claim that the Commission's factual findings were not supported by the evidence, we need not determine whether the trial court's review of the Commission's revocation decision was governed by the substantial evidence standard, or whether the court was authorized to exercise its independent judgment on the evidence."
He was suspended for a year. There's no end to Margarcheato and the loaded gloves. It happened and that's his legacy. Every fight he was in is tainted. It's a cardinal rule you don't load your gloves and he broke it for at least one fight and there's strong circumstantial evidence that he likely used loaded wraps in multiple fights. He's a cheat and a fraud.Last edited by Granath; 02-07-2019, 08:30 AM.Comment

I like to believe Marg used the plaster, he's a badman.
Seriously though, could not care less about the "but him cheated doe" crowd.Comment

Idgaf what anybody says he did cheat. If anyone ever had their hands wrapped, you are keeping an eye on it and making sure it feels right. Margarito claims he did not know anything was put in the wraps. The face off with Cotto, Cotto pulled up a picture where the gauze was broken along the middle knuckle. Ive never seen something like that. In the rematch a heavier 154lbs Margarito hit Cotto clean just like in the first fight and Cottos face wasnt busted up like in the 1st fight. What? Margarito didnt carry his "power" up from 147 to 154?Comment

This whole case was really shady from the start. From the Ca Commission's poor handling of the situation like the differences within the commission members and the influence shady ****m Richardson had on them on the night of the accusations to the hearing itself. I said shady ****m Richardson because if you look into him, he becomes a very su****ious character himself...you can easily come to the conclusion that Richardson is a cheater.Comment
