    Mainstream Fighting

    UFC
Right now Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock are in the spotlight for fight fans all around. Although this may seem like a mismatch, it is a very significant fight for UFC. Shamrock's legacy is on the line along with Ortiz's future as an elite fighter. If the younger but extremely seasoned former LHW Champion proves himself dominant in this rematch with Ken, he will be in a better position to demand a another fight with the "Iceman" Chuck Lidell. For Shamrock this match tonight is all about his reputation in the **********. He can redeem his past substandard performances with an upset over the the "Huntington Beach Bad Boy". An upset is not likely in the eyes of many UFC viewers, but it would give him the option to go out with a **** or set him up with a couple of more fights. A second loss to Tito is a definite sign to hang up the green shorts and would discourage all the other 40 year olds to keep on bringing it on.

    Boxing
Carrying the boxing torch this year would have to be Manny Pacquiao. His winning streak displaying his knockout abilities along with a whole country supporting him, has given him good momentum and position to be "The Man" in 2007. Assuming he finishes off his rival Eric Morales, he should be facing the winner of Barerra vs. Juarez. By the end of 2007 he may be contemplating moving up in weight. His current bragging rights are the historical victory of Morales (first KO of EM) and his destruction of over a handful of Mexican fighters.
In a strange way Pacquiao may have received the torch this year from Bernanrd Hopkins. In Manny's last fight he showed craftiness similarly displayed by the legendary executioner. Simply Mysterious!
Jermaine Taylor, Winky Wright, PBF, Coralles, and Castillo are the top dogs in boxing but each have displayed lack of professionalism or hunger to fight the best. Whether they were caught overweight on fight night, spitting out a mouthpiece twice during a fight, slacking of in the later rounds, or worst of all, complaining or talking about money. All of us have learned at some point in our working lives that it is rude to talk about money/salaries on the job (especially in front of fans). Today's fighter's are telling the media that they will fight for a certain amount or avoiding the best contenders because it is a good business decisions while they should be trash talking or challenging the best. That would attract more fans and the money will follow.

Ortiz dominated Shamrock the first fight. They stopped it after the second round if I remember correctly. But Ken took a terrible beating that night. His face was so swollen, marked and cut he looked grotesque.

The rematch still draws in a lot of fans. I'm having a little cookout for it. We ordered 100 pc fried chicken. I just hope it is a good match. Maybe Shamrock has something up his sleeve like a baseball bat.

Dana White who runs the UFC sees it as a big moneymaker. They have been hyping the fight for weeks when they had ken and tito as opposite coaches for the fighters the ultimate fighter series. They had what looked like a couple of staged arguments between them and Ken was saying how it will be different this time. I really dont think it will be any different but we shall see tonight. But White is sort of using the old lions last chance for revenge theme.

they're having a remach cuz they hate each other so much they want to fight again, and supposedly ken was fighting injured in their first fight. i used to hate tito and love ken, now i love tito and like ken. tito's a better coach, better trainer, better conditioned, and is in his prime. and hes a lot cooler and more respectable when hes not trash talking. and ken's terrible coaching and hard-on for respect has lessend my respect for him.

theres not gonna be another fight with liddell. tito got a beatdown and thats all there is to it.

im hoping arlovski KTFOs that slob tim sylvia.

it's a smart marketing move on Dana's part... there's virtually NO reason whatsoever that Ortiz and Shamrock should be fighting again other than the fact that the two were coachs on the latest 'Ultimate Fighter' show. It's amazing, however, in that i know friends that never buy UFC' that can't wait for this one.. for them, the Ortiz-Shamrock fight is gonna be great, even in reality, the usual fans know the truth of how this fight will end. And, great marketing move by Dana. So basically if Ortiz wins (which is almost guarenteed), he'll be right back up in contendership for a belt, there are rumors of an actual fight with Dana White if you can believe it. For Ken, this is almost certainly the end of the line, the man is like 42 years old. Arlovski-Sylvia should be a good fight, i'm leaning on Andrei to win by KO in the 2nd. Also Stevenson-Edwards is my pick for fight of the night. (For those interested, these conversations can continue in the MMA forums )
