How come boxing is not studied for CTE/brain damage like the NFL?

I've always wondered this. NFL is constantly under a microscope for the effects of colliding with another man at a high speed and always looking to make the game safer with updated equipment.

Yet boxing in general is not being studied for CTE/brain damage, despite no equipment.

    Why is this?

Very good question. Usually money answers those questions looking at it from every angle..

lots of studies have been made into the world of boxing and its ties to neurological impacts such as CTE... it's just so blindingly obvious that it happens that there isnt much to be done.

Shy of completely revamping the sport to not include anything that can leads to CTE.. what are you meant to do?

list of studies found here :

Right, it's logical to suggest that if football can cause CTE, no point posthumously harvesting boxers' brains.

There has been recent talk about CTE's prevalence with hockey and soccer players.

Investors and sponsors only started to care about CTE when it threatened the NCAA/NFL's bottom line. Talking about billions of dollars. Ain't nobody investing that kinda money into boxing.

Boxing is in the stone age when it comes to sports science and evolution as a sport

NFL had legitimate ways of prohibiting or somewhat alleviating the effects of CTE on a large number of its athletes. be that through helmet technology, rule change.. play style etc etc

in boxing, you hit eachother in the face and head until you knock the other unconscious. thats the whole point, give or take proper pugilism or sweet science etc etc but in the vast majority its kncking seven shades of **** out of eachother.

you cant escape CTE or neurological effects in boxing, or nullify it to a point lower than it already is.
All you can do is assign rules to ringside doctors for preventative measures after the fact like we do in the UK.

It's better to sweep it under the rug because if they looked at it seriously boxing would be banned or hitting the head banned.
