I hear raping beauty pagent contestants and then having to defend yourself endlessly in prison gives you mean punching power.
Nah. Just kidding. Watch videos of this kid when he was like 16. He was just born with the ability to smash his arms and fists into things harder than other people.Comment

Tyson had very good technique, speed, good lean mass, and accuracy. He was not super heavy handed or strong for his size like Foreman, Baer, Liston, Shavers, or Samuel Peter were/are. These guys could hurt (not knock out but they could stun or stagger) people with arm punches whereas Tyson needed to incorporate his legs and hips like the rest of us to hurt someone. Tyson's strength was good but not great whereas these guys I just named were ridiculously strong for their size.Comment

There is a difference between "punching power" and "unnatural punching power". Hard punchers are a dime a dozen, but "Super punchers" are very rare. They come in all weight classes. Probably a case of both nature and nurture, plus the will to set down on punches no matter what. Definitely just hitting a car with a sledge hammer or chopping wood alone won't get one in the same class with the real punchers of the world, otherwise everyone would be doing it and they'd all be incredible hard hitters.....Comment

Even Douglas wasn't an arm punch, it was an uppercut, and a decent one too if I recall. also Douglas (who does not have the greatest chin) was really not badly hurt at all, he was simply caught by a decent that he didn't see.Comment

never knew this until Douglas said it and showed the video how Tyson's punch actually hit right underneath his chest, sliding up to Douglas's chin...it wasn't a direct shot to the chin.
I also wouldn't count to much on that punch since his legs were very weak by this point.Comment

Douglas was hurt after that monster right uppercut, he was saved by the bell, Tyson just didn't have anything left and Douglas was determined to knock Tyson out. I don't know if any of you guys remember, but I remember that knock down pretty well and the way Douglas neck twisted in slow motion send you shivers on your back... As for punching power Tyson is definetly one of the greats, for physical power he was not because there were guys that sometimes pushed him easily when he got on the inside...Comment
