Comments Thread For: Caleb Plant: I'm The Big Dog at 168, They've Got To Come See Me

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - As back stories go, few hang with Caleb Plant's. So as the confident 26-year-old neared his professional dream winning the IBF super middleweight title from Jose Uzcategui he knew the moment of achievement would be pretty powerful. As it turned out, he really had no idea. "It was a surreal moment. It was one I'd waited...

I am as sympathetic as the next guy, I also consider myself sensitive and considerate, but am really getting tired of reading and hearing about this guy's late daughter...they make Plant out to be this immense victim/ survivor...I dunno if PBC is behind it, or it's his team that promotes this personal tragedy angle but every article, every fight...I dunno, everyone is different I guess, to me his remorse is cheapened by how often he talks about it...just fight man, wear her initial on your trunks and stfu already about it...100s of millions around the world experience some form of personal hardships...we turn to sports and entertainment to escape reality not to feel sorry for the athletes and entertainers.

I think the whole sympathetic angle they're going with is to appeal to a softer audience, like women and gay boxing fans like WarMikey for instance.

Good on the guy but he is as the British would say, getting knocked the spark out up the bum ol' guv'ner!

Uhhh no Mr. Plant that is the incorrect answer. Sorry you lose 200 points for that misstep.

To me 168 is in play. I can see arguments for Smith or Ramirez being #1, but not really Plant. But mainly 168 feels up for grabs still cuz Ramirez hasn't impressed as much as many once felt he might & while winning the 168 WBSS tournament was impressive, and a surprise to me I'll admit, I think that bracket was the least accomplished & stacked bracket of all the WBSS weight brackets thus far so I'm not feeling Callum as much as many are. I mean like it or not the 200 WBSS reboot this year, that I think no one is super excited for, has more top ten guys in it then that 168 bracket did.

So respect to Callum for winning it but unlike 200 last year & 118 & 140 this year the winner of that tournament wasn't likely to be seen as the clear #1 guy. I'll even suggest as long as Usyk moves up before the final the 200 reboot is more likely to declare who's newly #1 at 200 than that 168 bracket was ever going to do with so few top guys in it. Not Callum's fault, but thats how it shaked out like it or not.

I still feel like Jose had a terrible corner and game plan. Even after all that he still almost TKO'd him. I feel Jose should get the rematch next to see if he Plant is legit and truly better. That was a BRILLIANT night he had where almost everything was on point.
