His lack of humility makes him unlikable but I think the reason his "new me" failed every time he tried it. It failed because he's just not at that level that people made him out to be.

People seem to think fighters all have the potential to be #1 but there's something they do to screw it up. Broner was never elite, no matter what they told you. I could see it early on with him. Flaws in his technique. If anything, his confidence carried him much farther than his talents ever could have on their own.

IMO his “Good Chin” theory is only there because he fights so defensive and at his age is relexes are good enough that he sees and can anticipate most punches coming at him which allows him to properly absorb the shot.
