Comments Thread For: Ellerbe: Mayweather's Retired; 'No Interest' In Pacquiao Rematch

LAS VEGAS Floyd Mayweather Jr. was noncommittal when asked during Showtime's telecast Saturday night about a rematch with Manny Pacquiao. The Pacquiao-Adrien Broner bout was in progress and Mayweather was careful not to disrespect a fighter he has mentored. That interview took place prior to Pacquiao hurting Broner badly during the seventh and ninth rounds, before it became obvious Broner definitely was headed for the fourth defeat of his star-crossed career.

Id retire too after seeing the 40 year old's workrate and defense against a prime Broner last night... unless Rhonda Rousey wants to fight... no leg kicks allowed!

He clearly stated this before so no surprise. Im pretty sure he was pissed the way Showtime put the cam on him after the fight. The guy is retired and wants a few exhibition. Let him be

If that were really the case, he could've just said no when Jim Grey asked about a rematch. Instead he loves to have everyone speculate by giving a non response.

I don't buy it. We've heard this "Floyd is retired" story before. I bet he comes back.

The REASON that people keep asking him is because HE announced, during Canelo/GGG 2, that he would be returning to the ring to face Pacquiao in a rematch. He is the one who said it - nobody else. Yes he has the right to change his mind, but the only reason it is being talked about now is because Floyd brought it up in the first place.

Fighting in exhibitions doesn’t negate retirement... fighters back in the day did it all the time. I believe he’s retired. He loves attention for sure but the type of commitment and drive he would need to compete against today’s crop is gone. He’s just having fun. He has nothing left to prove... really.

I honestly think Floyd is done. He is just a bit too slow for Pac now. Don't expect a rematch unless he really does go broke.

He hasn't had a real fight in 3 years. People only want him to return hoping father time can give him an L.
