  • Comments Thread For: Bob Arum: Al Haymon is Doing a Disservice to His Welterweights

New York - Although Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is one of the greatest promoters of all time, sometimes he needs help with making fights. So when it came down for Amir Khan (33-4, 20 KO's) to decide what fight he wanted next between Terence Crawford (34-0, 25 KO'S) and Kell Brook, he phoned a friend and manager Billy Keane.

    January 18, 2019:

I always been an Amir Khan fan and I thought it would be a tremendous test for Crawford,” Arum told BoxingScene. “I was not very successful in closing the deal. Billy Keane spent two weeks with Amir Khan. We negotiated everything with Billy and got the deal done.”

    July 16, 2016:

There is a lot of chatter about Manny Pacquiao fighting in October, but don’t expect that fight to go to Amir Khan.

The Telegraph spoke with Pac-Man’s promoter Bob Arum about potential opponents for Manny. When asked if Khan was a possibility, Arum dismissed the British fighter in harsh terms.

“Amir Khan means absolutely nothing in the United States,” Arum told Telegraph Sport. “He brought over no people for the Canelo fight. He saved the Brits a lot of agony.

“He is not a draw on PPV in England. He is looked upon on both sides of the pond as yesterday’s news, and yet he refuses to recognize that and feels that his value is very, very high, which it is not.”

The most hypocritical nonsense I've ever heard.

He's saying this but in reality he's been doing this for years.

The only difference is that Haymon has actual good matchups to make and has almost all the best welterweights signed to PBC.

Meanwhile when Arum does it, it's complete mis matches left and right.

I remember not too long ago Arum said he didn't believe Al Haymon existed.

You do realize Haymon gives us more mismatches than anyone right? But that's ok because as long as it's not Arum doing it right? Do you want to see Bud against Spence, Thurman, Porter, Garcia, etc. or are you ok with Thurman, Danny, & Porter playing round robin while Spence continue fighting nobodies & guys two weight classes smaller than him?

"If [Garcia] wants to fight, let him call me and I'll give him a number. If he doesn't like the number - f*** it - I ain't negotiating! It's because of the way he negotiates. If he's loyal to Showtime and they've been good to him, let him be loyal to Showtime - just don't bother me."

“I’m the old school and I make fights with everyone,” stated Arum.

The only time Arum sends somebody to another network is of he loses a purse bid. He's really no different at all.

Did this greedy piece of **** forgot he did a disservice to Manny Pacquiao for years having him fight in house fights the same thing he mad at Haymon for doing. The only difference is Haymon has all the top welterweights except for Bud Crawford.

I'm not the biggest Arum fan but he does have a point here. Haymon rather keep his fighters inactive than to put them up against another stable.
