Is this what happened in Floyd/Maidana?
Could be... like some of these African dudes who are largely self taught or ain't trained to any particular school of technique. These guys can be a real handful for fighters rote trained in orthodox technique, but ain't usually too much of a problem for high IQ boxers with good reflexes like Floyd. (i'm thinking Indongo vs Troyanovsky, Burns and Crawford here but ther's plenty of other examples).

Thing is Maidana's technique ain't that unorthodox... I think what happened was a combination of Chino's roughousing physically added to some techniques that had clearly been practiced specifically for Floyd (and perhaps Broner) - the high arcing right and downwards chopping hook to try to go over the high shoulder were very apparent in both fights.

And never forget Floyd was, what? 37 years old... no one can pretend that's close to prime.

No. Maidana is a skilled fighter who knows how to fight. A lack of skills is a minus and having skills is a plus. Maidana used a fast rough hard hitting attack on Mayweather that was effective just as it was on Broner and many other boxers Maidana defeated. Maidana isn't a boxing master but he is a skilled power puncher who knows how to hurt his opponents.
