Is Luis Ortiz the greatest myth in boxing history?

I had a good look at his career today and his resume is AWFUL.

Like, it's not even a top 50 resume this decade

Yet we hear how if you say dudes name 3 times in a dark room and spin in a circle with your eyes closed he magically appears and ko's you with a left hook.

It wouldn't be AS bad if he was a 25 year old kid with his resume getting hyped but he's a 40 year old man.

The guy is good but very overrated just because he got KOed by wilder.

Thou, only wilder boys rate him that high.

Yeah his resume isn't that good but then again, people aren't exactly lining up to fight him are they? It's not always the boxer's fault that they have a less-than-stellar resume. I genuinely think he's willing to fight anyone in the division. I don't, on the other hand, think anyone in the division is willing to fight him. He's the type of guy you'd say is in the "who needs him" club.

He's definitely a current top five heavyweight in my opinion. He was doing very well against Wilder and there's no shame in that loss. I think he'd be a difficult man to beat for anyone in the division right now.

This is boxing business... You don't have people lining up fight you when you don't bring nothing to the table. Not even 5k fans.

Yeah I know. I understand full well why Luis Ortiz can't get opponents. Being in the "who needs him" club is essentially the same as saying "high risk, low reward".

Of course you are right. Hez in the "high risk low reward" category but his team should up their game by sending contracts out to other top then guys. Let them make attempt for fans to see their will to get a big fight. It's not enough to call out fighters, they have their own management and they will also evaluate the risk/financial rewards and other stuffs like that.

At the end of the day, no matter how technically good you are, you will be rated by the quality of opponents you faced not fight you tried to make that didn't work. Ortiz doesn't have much time, his management needs to act fast.

It depends what you mean by myth really! It seems like a career of 'shoulda, woulda, coulda'.
If he had managed to get the Wilder win, we would be throwing his name around with so much more weight but he then would have been beaten by Fury and Joshua.
Wilder hyped him so much but purely out of self interest. Wilder; 'My resume is so bad, I'll just say that Ortiz is the second best HW in the world enough and hope people swallow it'.
If he put Kauffman away early, as his 'hype' suggests he should have, we'd be talking more about a PPV fight against someone that can either retire him or put him up for one last world title shot.
I don't really want to see Whyte v Joshua again. I'd like to see Ortiz v Whyte though, that would be a good 'final eliminator' to take on either Wilder or Joshua.
IMO, that's where he is currently, teetering on the edge between retirement and big money.
