He always knew he was coming back but he'd just made his first couple of mega paydays and did have nagging injuries, I think coinciding with there suddenly being killers left right and center he figured it was a good time to take a break, let some of these guys beat each other up then come back and clean out those left standing.
I honestly can't criticize Floyd at all for his career, he made a fortune, has an ATG resume and did it all despite getting a ton of hate.
Yeah there's one or two fights that would have been nice "for the fans" but man **** the fans
Boxing fans are the worst sports fans around and no boxer owes them ****

Ive thought of couple scenarios where he wanted to go on a break to get stronger and get accustomed to 147 or maybe he wanted to avoid some killers like Williams and Margo. But at the end he just wanted to take a break imo.
People forget that, as brilliant a star Floyd was in boxing, it took Dancing with the Stars and the WrestleMania "main event" against Big Show for Floyd "Money" Mayweather to truly break out as a crossover star.
Yeah while he was away from boxing, those definitely helped raise his profile among casuals
It never ceases to amaze me. The hate Floyd is still getting 3 years after retiring. Floyd said after the Mitchell fight his body was broken down, and he could no longer be Pretty Boy Floyd, who did let his hands go and had a 90% KO record.
I don't think he was confident he could continue his style change as Money May, where he was much less agressive and a more defensive fighter. I think the layoff helped him rest his body so he could continue.
Regardless of what you think. The guy is retired and soon to be 42. Lets keep him out of the news. His haters, by the way, are the main reason he is so rich...and Floyd laughed all the way to the bank.
