Chino really did hang it up when he lost his passion to box. That's commendable. So many fighters stay in the game because of money or simply because they just want to. Maidana could have stayed and probably been fit for several more years but he just didn't have the desire. I can respect that. It was sad to hear about his retirement but I'm happy for him and the success he accomplished. He's definitely one of my all time favorites!

I would have liked to have seen him in more fights, he was still a high-level competitor at the point of his last fight. That said, if I made the kind of money that back-to-back Floyd paydays bring, I'd do the same as him. He was the last fighter to actually test Floyd and of course he did the boxing world a great service by humbling Broner. He deserves to enjoy his retirement.

Maidana is a f#cking folkhero to me now with his walking away at the exact perfect time & being intelligent about this brutal game. I'd love for more fighters to time their exit as good as Marcos did or just in a more timely way so they don't sell brain cells for cash in their later years chasing unreachable goals past prime. Boxing is for young guys trying to be something better than they are at high risk to themselves not a old silk pajama wearing 7 digits in the bank guy endeavour.
Anyway respect & good luck to Marcos in all he does outside of boxing & with his managing of his lil brother.

Maidana was a grizzly bear in the ring. tip my hat to him, true champion. Took on all comers and gave each and every one of them absolute hell. Sometimes the best retirements are the ones where a fighter has fought everyone because he remained relevant and somehow never runs out of quality opponents, but ultimately knew his best was behind him. Maidana, Calzaghe, Bradley, Cotto, Ward, Froch and JMM are examples of how its done. RJJ, Mosley, Rafa Marquez, Jermain Taylor, Margarito, Barrera, Morales, are examples of good fighters that fell into the "gatekeeper" trap. If you can't give them hell in the ring, stay out of it, otherwise people will confuse you at your greatest, with the old washed up version of you.

fights with ortiz, khan, broner were classics. fight with morales was surprisingly good, too. he was basically in a good scrap every time.
glad he made his money and got out. when a guy like that gets past his prime he has no real answer but to take a beating and hope he lands. that's terrible for your brain.

His bro Fabian looks like a better all round fighter to Marcos. He's been improving markedly with every fight and he carries proper hurt in this gloves. Won't be long before everyone knows about Fabian Maidana.
