Mares I always belived is a very intelligent fighter with pride and a touch of class. For him to take this fight shows sand! Too much sand I keep thinking. But it's too headscrathing for me not to belive Mares doesn't have a plan worth betting on. Very interested in this to say the least.

I used to workout at the same gym as Meldrick Taylor in San Diego. He was never the same after that huge disgrace of a stoppage. It’s no secret that Richard Steele was Sulaiman’s puppet and given the chance, he prevented Taylor from winning the decision. He was up on all 3 judges score cards at the time of the stoppage. Sweetpea was also robbed. De La Hoya would’ve probably been robbed too if given the chance to go 12.

Obviously Mares is a sweet kid and a nice guy. He's a class act. I wish him well against Tank Davis because he is going to need it. I just can't see Abner lasting the distance in this fight because he has too much wear and tear on those tires of his to box for twelve rounds. However, just like Mikey it is the fight that he wanted.

I'm curious to see if Mares lands a clean shot on Gervonta's chin and how he handles it.

He'll probably handle it the same way Leo Santa Cruz handled it. Mares has never been known for his punching power. He has always been known his versatility. His ability to box on the outside and a ability of fighting with a high workrate while fighting on the inside.

Mares has a KO rate of 48% and he's never fought at Davis's current weight division before. I don't think his shots will affect Davis much.
