Sky's PPV Numbers are a lie...

If anyone is not aware, Eddie Hearn has linked a website called BARB.co.uk many times to show the amount of buys for the event.

Actually BARB does not show the amount of buys and never have. What they do as a company is collect broadcasting data to show an estimated amount of viewers for TV. They estimate it using averages like how many people would be watching a PPV buy, which on average is definitely more than 1 surely?

So when Hearn says he did 500k buys and uses BARB as his proof, that is actually just an estimated amount of people watching. So imagine on average across the country that 2 people are watching the same PPV buy, then you could essentially cut the buys he says in half to get a more accurate number. Actually their ratio is more like 2.5 viewers per TV.

Sky never release an amount of buys and Hearn clouds the water by giving figures of estimated viewers and passes it off as buys.

    This is just fact

They don't get actual numbers, all they do is show an estimated amount of viewers per TV broadcast. Not just Sky Sports.

That's all they do as a company.

      So it isn't a lie

Yes that's called the neilsen ratings. All tv ratings are estimates. There's no way to track how many viewers. But maybe they do actually get PPV numbers, because with PPV they don't need to estimate the TV companies know how many buys.

They don't get PPV numbers, it's confidential.

And even if they did, surely they would use their own estimates and measurements and bump the number up even more to show the estimated viewers.

Their weekly viewing figures show estimated viewers, that's it, nothing else. They are not going to just lump a PPV figure in the list without using their own measurements first. Why would they do that? it makes no sense for a company to do that when their whole game is to make estimations on viewing patterns.

          Use some common sense.

Hearn is using estimated viewers as PPV buys, that's all he's doing.

I know you're a big Matchroom fanboy but you have to have some common sense. It's not some mad conspiracy theory.

Their numbers fall in line with PPV numbers we know. So no they aren't going with their own estimates. That much is obvious. Estimated viewers for the big fights would be far higher than what they're reporting.

I don't think I've once ever heard or read Hearn using BARB as any sort of proof (apologies if he has), I have seen him verbally say ppv numbers, or ball park numbers on what previous shows have done. Why would he need BARB to jusify numbers? He'll be one of the first people to recieve them, he's paying the purses, he would receive documentation of the exact numbers so him, Sky and everyone involved can do the final accounting

I also think your theory on BARB is flawed, halving the numbers?. You could say it's as flawed as using BARB as gospel in terms of numbers...with all due respect.

I think if he lied or exaggerated numbers then that would count against him in a number of ways...first off it's not smart from a creative accounting point of view, second, in negotiations with non-Matchroom fighters, in normal circumstances the other party will need evidence of said fighters market value so it would come out anyway.

I can see the point your trying to make...I think. But it's not really an accurate assessment of the situation imo. I think media generally get the ball park figure from Hearn, or someone at Sky through verbal communication, and I think the numbers reported are normally pretty accurate for the most part

Hearn never mentions BARB, its others that use their numbers. And of course he knows what the official PPV numbers are, his whole job is based around figures
