Comments Thread For: Ellerbe: Gervonta Davis Is Special; Will Be Sport's Biggest Star

Leonard Ellerbe believes Gervonta Davis is ready to become boxing's biggest star. Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, is confident Davis has the fortitude, skills and temperament to separate himself from the rest of the sport's top young stars. Davis is 20-0 and has knocked out 19 of his professional opponents, but the powerful southpaw will fight for the first time in 9 months when he squares off against Abner Mares on February 9 in Carson, California.

I would expect nothing else from Ellerbe. He’s the kids promoter, doubt he’ll say anything negative.
I’m just wondering what his comfortable weight is gonna be and how long before they put him there. If he can’t make 130 comfortably that puts him at a disadvantage even if his opponent is Mares.

Mayweather Promotions has done a great job for Badou Jack.

They can do the same and more for Davis who is more talented than Jack, he just has to listen to his team.

It will be interesting to watch the careers of Tank and Teofimo, and see which promoter does a better job! Can either one beat Lomachenko? Will either one fight Lomachenko?

He will not be a superstar for the reason that he acts and looks like a thug

I tend to agree with Ellerbe and his assessment that maintaining focus is the key for Davis. We have seen indications though of Davis' not staying focused such as not making weight and his choice of friends like Broner. If he can make the right choices then he'll succeed if not he's going to destroy his life and career.

I believe Davis has the ability to be a big star, not sure about the drive. The one thing Floyd doesn’t get enough credit for, and all of us may agree on this, he was always prepared, focused, worked hard for every single fight. And through his hard work and dedication, he became a major, top PPV Star. And he had the right team around him to select the right strategic fights at the perfect time that benefited him more than anyone else. They weren’t always fan freely and some may have happened later than they should have, but he was a mastermind at becoming the top box office star. I have to give him credit for that even if I don’t like him. I am curious to see what he can do with David IF he keeps winning.

Nope, he already ducking people and is very unlikable. He does all his fighting over social media and not in the ring. Getting *****-faced isn't helping his body either. Gonna label him Broner 2.0.
