    Very true in boxing.
mundi is world - so 'the glories of the world are transitory' would be literal I think, but it amounts to the same thing... more so in this specific case I'd say.

    EDIT:

Sic transit gloria mundi is a Latin phrase that means "Thus passes the glory of the world".

Slightly different then, and usually used in eulogy, but still...

Ha ha damn, should have recognised that verb ending... been more than just a few years though. Course if you ever played DA:O there's this which is also apposite:

'marvel at perfection, for it is fleeting'

I never really 'support' a fighter in the way I support a football team. I've found the Wilder/AJ fanboism strange on here.

I do tend to have a favoured fighter in any given fight, but not always.

But more than any of that, I love the idea that I might be watching greatness. A legend in the making. And I can say I watched them do it. I watched Tyson and was convinced he was going to be the best ever. That's an awesome time to have been a boxing fan - even if it didn't turn out as I wanted.

Of the current crop, who is the legend in the making? That's why I can't support Wilder in any fight - I'm very confident he's nothing more than a footnote in history. I want him gone so we can start building some history for this era.

I enjoy watching older champions like Floyd and Pacquiao finish out their careers while at the same time keeping an eye on the newer generation of rising stars.

It's why boxing rarely gets boring to me. There's always something going on.

              Floyd $$$ Mayweather looks irrelevant.

Wilder may be crude and unrefined for a champion but he has heart and a knockout punch. Here's to Hoping A.J does fight Miller at Madison Square Garden. Just maybe "big baby" will starch that ass and the bodybuilder brit will become a footnote and gone so we can start building some history for this era!

No problem, man. Been a long time since I looked in that dusty corner of my mind, and I always like to learn something new myself.

I don't just appreciate great fighters, I appreciate great fights. Sadly, the fighters of today are more concerned with building their bank accounts than their legacy.

I for one, will be happy when a lot of these dudes get out the game.

No doubt about this. One of the things I hate about boxing is its not controlled by a real governing body at any level that mandates the top boxers fighting each other. Its all some crazy mix of having a ABC group connection, a strong promoter & getting the right people looking out for you on the business end to some degree.

In virtually every other sport the talent rises to the top whatever affiliations one may or may not have. In boxing you won't even get the opportunity to prove how good you are til you sell yourself to a promoter typically.
