floyd is SUPERIOR. therefore he is the GOAT. period. what does ali do better than floyd in the ring???
We never really saw Floyd take much punishment so we can’t say he had a better chin. Better defense for sure though.

I'd say they're both great but I really can't stand how much old fighters get hyped up.

Ali only gets the edge in chin (because he used it a lot more), and power (because he used it alot more).

I'd give Ali the edge in chin, footwork (close), jab, power, and resume. Both are great and top 10 ATGs. I think it's time we acknowledge Floyd belongs in the that category.

True, but you also have to look at the context in which they fought. Ali did certain stuff that might not seem like a big deal now but he was revolutionary and a pioneer. Like Willie Pep's footwork was a game changer at the time but you'd almost think it looked silly with the historical context.

Old fighters get all this hype and people act like their gods. Yet a lot of old fighters spent most of their career fighting bums. They faced a few good threats but they'd fight about 80 or more bums out of 100 fights. All these greats also lost to lesser fighters and kept losing when they were at the age when Floyd retired.

yeah cool fantasy cept ali fought prime greats and floyd didn't. its like charlie zelenoff saying he is better because he knocked out some guy he found at the gym who he asked to do "light sparring" with. yes there are different levels and floyd refused to fight at the top level. you are trying to pretend dominance and being undefeated equates to what ali did. you can't compare them because they are in different leagues. floyd wouldnt have looked the same if he did what ali did. ali wouldnt' have looked the same if he did what floyd did. all you can compare is what they actually did and floyds resume is crap. all the good fighters he fought were way way past it. the solid guys like castillo most had him losing to and canelo is the only guy worth anything but he was clearly drained at 154 let alone 152. if ali had fought a recently ko'd foreman, a 40 year old frazier, a drained liston etc...then yeah you could reasonably compare their "skills" against similar opposition.

You'd not catch Ali waiting for Liston, forman frazier to age enough to slow down. Nor actually come out and say that he did "I got to look after me".

Nevertheless Mayweather is a top echelon ATG, just not challenging for number 1 like Ali does with the HWs.
