2018 was a let down compared to 2017. That list is shooting very low. Hardly any really exciting match-ups or FOTY candidates.

It seems the media has finally taken control and is maneuvering to fool fans that the big fights are just around the corner...yes like they always have - but now they're perfecting the art of manipulation.

As a fan, I was almost disgusted with what we were fed at times in 2018 - especially at HW and MW. absolute garbage.

They are conditioning us to accept the normalcy that the big fights take 'marinating' (thanks Oscar), and it's better to wait until two great fighters are nearly 40 (or one is) because it's all about protecting your cashcow.

Nearly all young fighters want to emulate the idiot Floyd, from his philly shell stance to pull counters and cherry-picking fighters while talking low brow trash that Muhammad Ali wouldn't even dignify.
A bit like how hip hop went commercial and created a bunch of fakes and hype jobs.

That was a great, close fight that could have gone either way..

minimum
wanheng menayothin - knockout cp freshmart (winner is lineal but they said there is no chance for this fight to happen)

light fly
ken shiro - ryoichi taguchi (winner is lineal and can be made realistically)

fly
tanaka-kimura then tanaka or higa vs. nietes and then winners fight on new year's event (winner is lineal)

super fly
everything is great here. no complaints. naoya-kun left this but that's life.

bantam
nery - yamanaka, tete - narvaez, hearn is protecting burnett (i think he deserves an easier fight after deteting 2 champions in a row) so that leaves naoya no chance to fight for a belt in his first fight if it happens in the first six months. his brother and manny rodriguez won't fight naoya. solis - mcdonnell situation is not resolved. haskins and butler are targeting burnett. that leaves only payano from the upper echelon.
so ideally for me:
nery - yamanaka winner vs. rigo (they said he can make 118 if needed)
tete - naoya inoue
winners fight next year

super bantam
this division is not interesting at the moment. nobody will fight rigo and the rest are not that good.

feather
frampton - donaire winner vs. russell or santa cruz
this division needs wbss badly but russell won't accept invitation :[ .

super feather
lomachenko - berchelt (i think they are no. 1 and 2)

light
mikey - linares (winner is lineal)
lomachenko is going after wbo belt first so we can't expect him against current champions until the end of the year.

super light
lipinets is the only champion here so we have to wait for good fights.

welter
spence - gift garcia
everything else is not realistic or is practically sure.

super welter
it seems castano and vitu will fight so that leaves hurd, lara and charlo free to unify.

ggg - saunders for all the belts

winner of wbss - ramirez (no. 1 and 2 for me, winner is probably lineal)

kovalev vs. stevenson - jack winner

cruiser
this is the best division for the last 3 years in terms of fights made. winner of wbss is lineal, top10 p4p and there is nothing left to prove. he can go to heavyweight.

this was my somewhat realistic wishlist last year (i purposely left out fights that were made or nearly made). only 3 fights got made and lomachenko - linares pleasantly surprised me.

my wish list for this year:

joshua - wilder/fury 2 winner (obvious)

cruiserweight
just clear wbss winner with no more roberries, draws and freak injuries.

light heavyweight
bivol vs. any of jack/browne, alvarez/kovalev, beterbiev/smith winners because he is the only free agent and there are no big money fights which could entice networks and promoters to work together.

gvozdyk - zurdo if he moves up

super middleweight
callum - zurdo if he does not move up or callum - uzcategui
benavidez made things complicated. he could have been in a big fight this year otherwise.

middleweight
canelo - jacobs (obvious)

super welterweight
hurd - castano if he beats lara

welterweight
spence - danny or porter
ennis vs. somebody from top10

super lightweight
wbss winner vs. ramirez (obvious)

lightweight
lomachenko vs. one of the new champions. nothing compelling for now.

super featherweight
in a perfect world: davis - machado, berchelt - ito then winners fight each other. as things stand right now, i would be happy with any match up involving 2 of these 4.

winners collide or santa cruz moves up daring to be great.

1000% agree. Im a Canelo fan and I admit he lost like almost every round against Floyd. But DAMN Abel Sanchez even said GGG LOST!

And winners don't run out of the ring CRYING if they truly felt they won.

Canelo stood his ground and made GGG back the *** up! I recorded his ass crying after the fight all busted up! To this day i watch that sht laughing. The bully got bullied!

Ain't it a lil early for that? Feel like Teofimo needs another year on him minimum. He's not even busted his top ten guy cherry yet let alone fight a guy you could argue is #1 in all of boxing.



And good luck wishing on this one lol. 2 divisions & platforms separate these guys. Thats a hell of a hurdle to climb in 12 months.

I feel its a very solid bet Spence vs Crawford doesn't happen this year & with Thurman's activity level I don't think it'd be a bad bet to say Spence vs Thurman doesn't even happen in 2019.

Thinking the Pacquiao vs Broner winner might be fighting Spence doe. Thats what I'd aim for if I'm Spence anyway if these other don't play ball like they haven't been. By 2020 the tables will be flipped & Thurman is gonna be wanting to steal some of Spence's shine & be the inarguable B side.

It's a WISH list! Teofimo Sr. has already said that if they don't get Loma in 2019, they're moving up to 140! That's why the fight is on my 2019 wish list because it's 2019 or bust!

I know Canelo vs. Spence is no easier to make than Spence vs. Crawford, but I do WISH it could happen! Spence owes it to us, to fight Canelo @ 160, after accepting to fight Mikey Garcia! Spence has said in the past that he was willing to fight Canelo @ 160, and Oscar has said he would love to make that fight, so LET'S GET IT! September would be nice! Happy New Year fam! Bring back the twerking Panda!
