A "bum" doesn't get a few huge paydays. MAYBE 1. A "bum" doesn't headline an ESPN show 20 times, fight on HBO, fight for a world title, and develop and retain a huge following.
YES, my logic is that if you earn the type of money that Ward did in your boxing career, you're not a bum. If you are, you're a genius.

He wasn't a bum. He wasn't a good boxer. However, he was a heck of a fighter despite his shortcomings.

        It's actually the complete opposite

He's a complete bum by NSB standards, but he gets a pass because he was in a legendary fights and he's caucasian.

Earlier on he was serious about his career and displayed a lot of promise but after a while he became broken and just said fuck it. I am only here to take an asswhooping, collect my paycheck and going home. At best he would be remembered as a journeyman and a gatekeeper.

He could probably buy 10 hall of famer's houses. so "bum" wouldn't be the right word. Journeyman, fine. just a journeyman with a hollywood movie done for him, and an 8 figure bank account.

He had a good knockout of Reggie Green , he knocked out Alfonso Sanchez who never boxed again and was one win away from a world title shot.
He had a very competitive fight vs Zab Judah in his prime. He really got screwed in his fight against jesses James Leija, he cut Jesse with a upper cut that was later said to be a head butt. You don’t box professionally for 17 years at the 140 if your a Bum. Ward was the kinda guy that was always Dangerous because he had a great Jaw and was always in good shape. One punch knock out power with his left hook to the liver. I would call Mickey Ward a real pro actually. The furthest thing from a bum.
Only a bum would ask something like that to be honest with you.
              And that’s that

Not a bum. A bum is a lay down artist. Ward was a good fringe contender.

He was not a bum IMO. 51 fights, 38 wins. He didn't have the best management or the best coaches and achieved good fame and money (although he doesn't look like he is a rich person), and had a punch that could change the whole fight.

He fought good competition and although he wasn't the greatest fighter in his division he is still not a bum.

Huge disrespect to the game to call fighters bums. Journeymen is a sad but genuine term for those who never make it to/or past contender status – but bum is awful, I especially get irked by fighters who call other fighters bums.
