Comments Thread For: Mikey Garcia on Doing VADA Testing For Errol Spence Fight

Four-division champion Mikey Garcia and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence are "making sure that everybody knows that we're clean fighters" by being randomly drug-tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) over a 10-week period in advance of their 147-pound clash on March 16 at The Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Fox Pay Per View, said Garcia.

Interesting. I’m thinking Spence vs Garcia is the same size as Pac vs Vargas?

This is good news since there's been noise that Spence isn't enrolled in testing. Hopefully everything goes thru and nobody gets popped!!

Spence, clean? Don't make me laugh. He might not bother taking any "additional supplements" for this fight since it's a mismatch anyway, but he's already shown he can beat VADA testing for the Kell Brook fight, as did Brook himself.

If you really wanna beat the testing - any testing - it can be done, and in many different ways. Just ask Victor Conte, the guy who is supposedly teaching Mikey Garcia how to do sit-ups and push-ups for this fight. He's said those exact words many times, as has his former colleague Angel "Memo" Heredia.

And I'm not attacking nor insulting any of the boxers I've named here- in fact I'm fans of all of them and don't blame any of them for doing what's needed to ensure a level playing field in sports in this day and age. I'm just saying that if you believe this crap that any fighter who passes VADA or USADA drug testing is automatically proven to be clean, then you're extremely ignorant on this topic.

The closer this fight gets, the more I think it'll sell north of 400k in PPV buys. If Wilder v Fury could pull 325k (on Showtime), then I'm thinking the Latino push will see this one do better.

I'm very interested to see how hard FOX pushes this fight. They did a lot of programming for Charlo/Charlo. I'd expect this fight to get a more significant push.

People seem to think PPV is bad for boxing, but if FOX makes some serious $$$ on this fight, the sport will see more resources come its way. "Budget relief" can be a very powerful catalyst for future investment. I think any comparison with premium cable fails to account for the differences in scale for a network broadcaster like FOX.

Both guys are doing VADA which is better than what most other boxers are currently doing.

Whether you like it or not they will deserve the benefit of the doubt as long as their tests come up clean.

You name two fighters that you claim "beat testing" but then you go on to say you're not attacking or insulting any fighters named lol So you're one of those, "If you can't beat them, join them" guys?

I agree that we dont really know anything in this area (unless a guy is caught). The regulations and enforcement authorities are under resourced and outmaneuvered too frequently; however, I'm also not about to assume a guy is using.
