No way is Alvarez the A-side vs the other champions. Stevenson even said in an interview right before the Gvozdyk fight that he probably wouldn't be interested in unifying with Alvarez afterwards because no one in Canada knows who he is. Gvozdyk is the lineal champion, while Bivol is considered the consensus #1 in the division and brings the big Russian-American fanbase in the US and Russian fanbase worldwide (Russia is one of the biggest nations on earth), so I think both of them would be A-sides against Alvarez, and that Gilberto Ramirez would be as well because he's Mexican and the establishment always favors Mexican boxers, almost as much as American star boxers.

The Canadian boxing fans (the province of Quebec, and the rest of us scattered across the rest of the country) definitely know who Álvarez is, especially after his KO of Krusher. If he does it again, people won’t even remember Superman.

There is no pure “a side” out of the 4. Nobody is a sensation. Kovalev was the biggest name at 175 and he’s pretty much done. The division is loaded with talent right now, but no real characters.

I love this move I want to see 175 become a more popular division and to do that I think having them on ESPN would be best. Hopefully they add Bivol and Beterbeiv as well to go with Gvozdyk, Zurdo and Alvarez!

Michel said Alvarez still is being advised by Al Haymon, long considered a rival to Top Rank and whose Premier Boxing Champions’ stable has three- and four-year deals with Showtime and FOX.

“Al Haymon is a friend, partner and I consulted with Al before moving forward [with the deal for Alvarez,]” said Michel of Alvarez, who trailed on all three cards before flooring Kovalev three times in the final round.

Yep it’s great that they are all working with each other. Haymon has too many fighters anyway I am glad that he allowed this move to happen.

This move could obviously lead to more Haymon advised fighters making similar moves. On Sunday, former champion Carl Frampton - who is advised by Haymon - announced that he signed a promotional deal with Frank Warren.

Jacobs indicates that nothing has changed between him and Haymon. He says the powerful adviser is here to stay and won't be on the outside looking in.

"Promotion-wise, we got one of the best promoters in the game, Eddie Hearn. I love the guy, he's tremendous at what he does. And I look forward to getting pushed. We still have Al on board. Al will always be my adviser. He was my adviser since the beginning of my career and when I hang my gloves up he'll be my adviser then as well. This is why so many fighters love Al Haymon! He really tries to educate them on the business, and many of his guys have their own promotion companies too! You don't see guys suing to get away from Haymon! They all have nothing but good things to say, even when going in a different direction!

I was working in the Maritimes in November, on the way back home to T.O. i spent a night in Quebec City, I went to the Stevenson fight...I have news for you, nobody knew who Stevenson was either...my friends know I am a fan, my friends are casual fans and some have no interest at all...but trust me, if anybody in Canada knows who Stevenson is , then they know who Alvarez is.

I never really thought about this but you’re right. Many of them have their own companies. I believe Leo even named his son after Al. He gets his guys paid Rleider just earned his 7 figure pay days because of Al. If Alvarez was with Duva you think he’d throw 7 figures at him to get him to leave? Doubt it.

This is definitely good news that Bob Arum and Al Haymon were able to work together to get this deal done.
Maybe now they can work together on a regular basis and give us the fights we as fans wanna see like Crawford-Spence and Lomachenko-Davis among others...

They better put all the petty feuds aside and work together or Hearn & GBP & DAZN, will end up stilling most of their talent having both super stars at DAZN, they better swallow their pride and give us the fans what we want to see.

That's why GBP and TR both lost their lawsuits because Haymon is not a promoter. He gets promoters to put up the money for fights, and he gets his money from the fighters!
