Does Mayweather punch hard (for his weight class)?

Floyd Mayweather's most powerful KO punches

Okay I have been hearing people calling Floyd pillow fisted and a weak puncher etc.
Back in his younger days when he didn't have his hand injury, he was an exceptionally powerful puncher. He has 26 knockouts (or 27 if you count the Mcgregor TKO)

I think the problem is, Mayweather relies on his defence and rarely goes for the kill, which leads to people thinking he cannot punch hard.

If Mayweather tried to knock his opponent out in each and every fight and round he would have demonstrated crazy knockout power. But he rather plays it safe, which is why he is 50-0

I don't think he plays it safe like he means it, sometimes you love boxing and want to display all your skills, playing defense is fun and you make people look silly, it's an amazing feeling that feeds his persona.

Boxing is a sport which at times can be finished by a K.O, but it was not meant to be that way.

No he's far below average in the power department at 147. With how many clean punches he landed on opponents he'd have had many KO's on his record at the weight if he wasn't

He was a really strong puncher in the early days but not at 147.

He had power enough to not get steamrolled like we've seen out of light punchers like Paulie

Very respectable power at 147 and very good power at lower weight classes

I think its more impressive to dominate your opponent for entire fight than to KO him early. If you are dominating and then get the KO that is great as well. WHen a fighter KOs someone, there's always the excuse that it was a lucky punch or he was losing and got a lucky KO. You hear it with Wilder and you heard it with Spence/Brook. Some fighters don't get the credit for KOs sometimes.

I think Mayweather was an average punching welterweight champion. He was not pillow fisted but he was not a big puncher and he did't try to get KOs. At no time in his career was he an exceptionally powerful puncher. He got KOs by landing lots of clean punches but he didn't have exceptional power in any punch. He had a sharp straight right and left hook that were both hard punches but not exceptionally hard.

He was a good puncher at 135 and under, but not so much in the higher weights but still respectable

i remember sugar shane pretty much saying the same as Berto in the link above that floyd had snap on his punches they hurt enough that you would'nt want to take too many or get caught with one you don't see coming

so i imagine its respectable power that if he really stepped on the gas and they took enough of them you would be in trouble
