So TR will obviously try to pay Main Events big bucks to reach a co-promotional deal for Kovalev. But Kovalev is going to get an insane offer from DAZN as well. The biggest winner in all this very well could be DAZN. Now they have a chance to match ESPN with two champs on their network.Comment

Right, he needs to fill dates and of course he will have to over pay on some fighters to have a control of certain division. There is an arms race going on. Certain divisions are controlled by certain networks/promoters. It is worth overpaying for someone like Alvarez if it means they will have three champions in their stable. And Alvarez's 7 figure deal was actually dependent on if he kept winning. Now that he lost? He may not even be getting that much for his next fight.

I think ESPN is the favorite for Kovalev's services since they have two other champs, but this at least gives DAZN a chance to even the odds.Comment

"As for why ESPN landed this fight instead of DAZN, Duva explained it wasn’t just about the money, “There were a lot of things taken into consideration and there’s a comfort level. We’ve dealt with Top Rank since the beginning of our business. Clearly Egis (Klimas, Kovalev’s manager) has a comfort level with Top Rank because he has so many fighters with them. The money, there came a point, once we came to terms, when DAZN started calling us and trying to give us more money. In the end, look: ESPN is going to make a seven-year commitment to boxing and this is a company that’s in the United States and I know is going to be here."Comment

Here is what she said.

Not like Kovalev has like five years left anyways, so why wouldn't she at this point go to the network that offers him the most money and best opportunity? Now, I mean it is possible DAZN out bids ESPN but he rather sign with ESPN since they have two other champions. That makes sense. But she shouldn't dismiss DAZN that easy here.Comment

I don't think the last part is true....at least not yet. Kovalev is likely to stay at TR, but I haven't read anywhere that he has signed a co-promotional deal with TR or anything. Kovalev is in a great position though. DAZN desperately needs an opponent for Bivol and ESPN wants to control the LHW division and they would do that with Kovalev being their third champion. Fair to say Kovalev is about to get PAID! Good for him....That is if he gets past the domestic violence charges.Comment
