Comments Thread For: Gervonta Davis Vows Statement To Show He Belongs in P4P Talks

Gervonta Davis will prove "I belong in the pound-for-pound discussions" with the February 9 defense of his WBA "super" super featherweight crown against three-division champion Abner Mares at The Stub Hub Center in Carson, California, near Mares' native Los Angeles.

He can start by fighting someone good in his own weight class...

Maybe somebody like, Berchelt. Needs to call for better opponents.

Yeah definitely! Berchelt-Davis would be a great, evenly matched fight that either fighter can win...
      Hope that fight happens soon...

Fighting a smaller guy who lost in his last fight is the best way to do it, go get them Stank Davis!

After this and maybe one more tune up showcase fight, he needs to fight Farmer or Berchelt!

He’s good enough where he can beat both those guys handily!

I expect him to unify a belt next year at some point, if not then he deserves the fans mocking him!

Berchelt already "called" for an opponent, and it wasn't Tank:

              November 23, 2018:

What Berchelt would really like is a unification with WBA "regular" world champion Aberto Marchao in a Mexico vs. Puerto Rico war.

"I would love (unify), I think right now the most feasible thing is to fight Machado. The one who paints the most beautiful picture is Machado, a classic Mexico-Puerto Rico battle, there is always great rivalry with the Puerto Ricans," Berchelt said.

According to Miguel Berchelt, he will defend the super featherweight title of the World Boxing Council on a date in March. One of the possibilities for that de

Machado has also "called" for an opponent, and it wasn't Tank:

              October 31, 2018:

At the moment, everything points to the fact that Machado will potentially face Mexico's Francisco "El Bandido" Vargas (21-1-2, 18 KO's), who previously held the WBC world title.

"As for boxing, there is still no clear picture. I expect news next week," Machado added.

"It's a doable fight since (Vargas) is under Golden Boy Promotions," said Machado, whose promoter is chaired by former world champion Miguel Cotto.

"It's a match that I've wanted for some time now. Specifically since 2015. It would be a dream come true. I was present when he was crowned world champion at the time. I set a goal to face him and look ... now I will give him his chance. It will be another chapter in the rivalry between Puerto Rico and Mexico."

Unbeaten Puerto Rican puncher Alberto "El Explosivo" Machado is looking for bigger things after retaining his "regular" super featherweight title of the World B

At least one fighter actually wanted to fight Tank:

              November 28, 2018:

“I’ve seen a lot of comments like, ‘Oh, they’re throwing Abner to the wolves,’ and ‘They chose the wrong fight for Abner.’ But I want to put this out there and make it clear that I chose this fight. I mean, I actually said, ‘I wanna move up to 130, and I wanna fight Gervonta Davis,’” said Mares (31-3-1, 15 KOs), who turned 33 on November 28...

“There were two other fights that were maybe not as risky as Gervonta, and we’re talking about Gary Russell or Carl Frampton. But I said, ‘No, I wanna move up to 130 and I wanna fight ‘Tank’ Davis,’” said Mares.

Abner Mares his heard the skeptics regarding his rise from 126 to 130 pounds, his goal of dethroning southpaw WBA “regular” champion Gervonta Davis, and quest f

He's already #1. Most people think loma was #1 but he went the distance with Pedraza while el tanque knocked him out. Since lomo got lit up by a el tanque left over it's only right.

El tanque is the big homie now.
