David Benavidez was 20 when he won his first title fight. What's your point?

I think him vs. Felix Verdejo is probably the best prospect matchup out there, plus the PR Mexico rivalry
He’s not ready for Verdejo. Why is Verdejo still considered a prospect?

He’s just not as good as we thought he’d be. Not sure we can call him a prospect anymore.

The problem is he looks pretty lost when he has to create. His offense consists of a single shot instead of him setting them up.

Yes Benavidez is an exception my point is most 20yr olds still have a lot to learn in the sport and are not there yet.

            Get it?

It wont happen, he will outgrow the division quickly he reminds me chavez jr, who didnt stop growing in height until he was 23

This kid just grew two more inches, what is he know 5 foot 10? I see ryan possibly being 6 foot 1 and being at welterweight in two years.

To me he hasnt done anything to break outta prospect status. he was on his way and TR was moving him nicely but then he had a hand injury, then the motorcycle accident, then some lackluster performances, then some inactivity, then he took that loss, then he changed trainers, then they took him to big bear, and has had 1 low level fight since.

Basically i think the kid still has potential, I just think a lot of bs hurt his growth. But in a lot of ways i find him similar to ryan garcia.

Disagree with the viewpoint on Verdejo. He’s just a fighter at this point. It’s been years since we saw him as a hot prospect about to break through..now he’s lost and has had all the issues. Great potential still but not a prospect anymore. Some guys just never really turn out to be as good as we wanted/though. Not that he wont be a good fighter, he may well put it all together, but sometimes guys peak as hot prospects and never become more than that.

Ryan is a prospect, Shakur is a prospect, Teofimo is a prospect. Verdejo is now just a 25 year old man trying to get his shot.

The hate is strong with the kid and that’s gonna help his popularity big time.

Actually last time a 20 yr old kid was hated this much In Boxing was a 20 yr old Oscar De La Hoya. He’s no Oscar yet but he already has folks hating and talking s he’s doing something better than the rest of the guys you mentioned.
Dont compare the guy to Oscar. Garcia is still fighting cans at that age while guys like Oscar and Floyd were already fighting top fighters by that time. Its crazy how people protect fighters and keep saying they're too young even though some fighters already have over 20 fights. Lets be real, only special fighters are able to compete at young age and beat top fighters.
