Its not like this fight was a one sided sustained beat down over 12 rounds by gvozdyk where the ref refused to stop it, wasnt stevenson winning the first half of the fight??? The fight was pretty competitive by both. Stevenson caught some serious heavy duty ukrainian artillery. Not the refs fault one bit.

I'm glad this ref feels some guilt about the outcome. I don't think he handled that poorly so he's not really at fault IMO. These refs hang out after parties when they reflecting on the life or death responsibility they have like a doctor.
That fight's referee was Alfred Asaro who is French, not British.

Anyhow, Stevenson woke up. News from 1 hour ago.

The headbutt he didn't see and didn't give Gvozdyk time to recover. His judgment may leads to the outcome! I sure, he didn't count the Nail's knockdown in hope Stevenson finish the bought.

I personally thought he took to0 long to get in between the fighters. It's almost like he was waiting or Stevenson to recover or didn't want to stop it just yet. The problem is those final blows, especially the last one, could've done all the damage.

With that being said, if he's feeling this guilty about it, he might want consider another career. It happens in boxing. Dwelling on it won't change the outcome.

The damage resulted from extreme drainage the CP did to his body

What about his corner? They should know their own fighter better than anyone else...

I don't like this type of talk. I mean the referee stopped this fight at the perfect time. What's this going to lead to in the future? Stopping fights as soon as someone gets stung? This is boxing - it's part of the sport and always will be. A grown man made a decision to fight and his team allowed him to do so knowing what he was looking like in camp.

This. I agree. Yunieski Gonzalez' corner did exactly that.

The referee was far from perfect in this fight: he didn't see two knockdowns, didn't react to the headbutt, but the stoppage was quite OK. Should he have stopped it earlier? One punch earlier? That was impossible. Don't forget that a long reigning champion was fighting and the fight wasn't a one-sided beating.
