Damn, this is horrible horrible news.

I continue to pray he makes it out of this. I think Stevenson as we know him will be no more

Life is very precious. Never take anything for granted. All of life's precious ***els could vanish before your very eyes over night with no heads up. Here today; gone tomorrow. Just gone

    Damn this is sad

If I was the family, I would call in a reverend or priest to pray over me before I make a transition. All the wrong I've done in life, I would want help to make sure my soul gets into heaven at least

I hope Adonis gets in if he doesn't make it out of this ok. This is crazy

Wow, he is in serious condition. My prayers are with him and his family. I hate to see a boxer go through this.

I posted about this before the announced tragic turn.
As a Registered Nurse, anytime a coma is induced, whether the patient lives or not, the subsequent recovery is challenging.
It's a sad case and we should all be thankful that Fury isn't in the same boat.
The damage that occurs in the 11th & 12th rounds is the most severe.
Jermain Taylor is the perfect example. Hence why 15 round fights were eliminated.
In the case of Adonis, his legs were so strong that he wouldn't go down.
That fight should've been stopped before the last 4-5 punches landed.
If you watch again, Adonis gets hit and his eyes look down while his arms point up.
That last punch snapped his head back and that is where the significant damage occuurred.
The medulla oblongata, aka the brain stem, is like the pass zone of the human body.
That he got up was beyond me.
The "safe" knockout is in the early rounds from a single shot.
Whether we like him or hate him, Adonis has a wife and child.
The main reason I avoid working in ICUs is because of the nonstop, intense emotional heaviness that comes with it.
I believe the initial damage occurred between rounds 7 & 9.
Gvozdyk was landing some brutal yet sneaky straight rights right in the chin. The knockout spot on both sides of the chin is called the mental foramen.
Think of it like lightning knocking out the electricity.
It takes time to turn back on.
It appeared to me that Gvozdyk was knocking him out & doing what we call "waking" him back up.
Eventually the brain temporarily shuts the body down so that it can reset. That is what you saw when he finally fell.
The thing about Fury-Wilder 2 that concerns me is that Fury will be much more affected by the punches of Wilder.
I know Reiss is great & Fury got up and finished strong, but the fight should've been stopped so that Fury's health in the future wouldn't be in jeopardy.
Fury was very punch drunk after the fight a la Bellew.
I hope this helps shine a little light on how dangerous this sport can be.
We as fans want blood. We crucify fighters and when they lose, we call them bums. Most of them are just trying to put food on the table.
Nearly all of them will suffer permanent brain damage.
I take care of the murderers, child ******ers, etc because nurses. A nurse can legally refuse to care for them; but they need care too.
You never want to see any human being suffer without relief no matter how low they sink.
We are all guilty of being judgemental at times, me included.
